Solved Why do my installed updates list updates installed prior to date of clean install

Hello, I would be grateful if anyone can help with this query.

On 1 June 2013 I took my pc back to Factory Settings and did a clean install of Windows installing all the relevant important updates for Vista. My pc is now up-to-date but one thing puzzles me. My list of installed updates lists a significant number of updates installed in 2008. (Two installed on 21/01/2008 and 39 from 21/10/2008). I would have expected that all updates listed would have an installation date on or after 1 June 2013.

I would be grateful if someone could explain this for me.

One important question, when did you buy the computer?
Was it after the installation date that shows, now?

Typically you will not receive every single update in one batch since some updates are dependant on others therefore you will receive certain updates and then after installation of them you will receive other more recent updates.

Hope This is what you are asking, if not then please upload a screenshot and we will help to clarify

Josh! :)

Hallo Richard

I bought the pc in April 2009. The thing I don't understand is that if I took my pc back to factory settings, how can I have updates installed in 2008? It just does not make sense - or am I missing something?

Thanks Shadowjk for your reply. I realise that an update can prompt further updates. My query is that I cannot understand why I have updates listed as having been installed in 2008 when I took my pc back to factory settings on 1 June this year. Surely all installed updates should have a date of installation on or after that date?

I do not think that the situation represents any sort of problem, but if you bought the computer after the installation dates shown, the updates may have been included at the time of purchase. Hence, included in factory settings.

Those are updates that were included in the factory image.

When you restore that image, of course it has those updates in it.

Thanks very much Richard and SIW2 for both providing very clear and concise replies to my query. I have little technical knowledge, but I now understand the concept of those 2008 updates being included in the factory image.

I will now mark this thread as solved. I appreciate your help.
