Will existing XP updates still be available?

Will the existing XP updates still be available for download for a while to come?

I ask this because as well as my main PCs I have an old laptop which I am keeping on XP for a specific purpose; it has some programmes installed that will only run properly if XP and its corresponding MS-Office are detected.

If I had a major problem such as a virus infection in the future, and had to do a complete re-install from the original discs, would I still be able to retrieve and install the updates from the Microsoft site or will they have disappeared completely after April 8th?

The answer is yes. I would updated to SP3 now, if you do not have 64 bit. If you have 64 Bit update to SP2.
What does it mean if my version of Windows is no longer supported?

Thanks very much Richard, I am up to date with SP3 already so I will rest (slightly) easier now.

You are very welcome. I would like to make one more point. XP is no longer supported which means no more security updates. In todays world it can be very dangerous not to have the current security updates. You can be hijacked or worse. Your ID can even be stolen. I would consider my options carefully. Regardless of what you decide I wish you happy and safe surfing.

Any bugs found after XP becomes unsupported will never be patched. IMO users should drop XP entirely since it is already outdated and insecure.
