Microsoft Windows Update KB 2968292

On about 16/10 I received about 12 updates which all got installed ok EXCEPT for 1 )^*%*&$%$^%#!!!
Yes, Update KB 2968292 would not install - no not even after many attempts.
Now what could this little bit of digital derangement have in it that it will not install?
That is not the real problem though as every time I go to switch off the machine or log off etc etc it attempts to install it and it can't so my screen just continues to say (stupidly!), "Installing one of one updates. Do not shut down your computer until the update is fully installed". Grrrrr! So when that comes up now I just immediately press the "R" switch which switches it off and immediately on again and wait about 5 mins so that I can actually switch it off by clicking on the red "OFF" icon in the bottom RH corner of the screen.
It is driving me MAD!!!

Yes, I did a search on the net and tried disabling my Norton Firewall for a little while but that did not work.

Can anyone please help me avoid total madness??

Phil.

The September and October updates had problems with some of the KBs. I was not able to install one for Windows 7. I was able to Google and find that there was a problem with that particular update among others. I was not able to find a reference to your particular KB, but it is very possible that is the problem. I will research and if I find something definite I will post.

Thanks Rich.
This is the notification I received -
"Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 SP2 on Windows Vista SP2 and Windows Server 2008 SP2 x86 (KB2968292)"

Download size: 606 KB

I imagine that thousands and thousands of people around the world must have received this Security Update of only 606 KB so cannot understand why it will not install on my computer.

Hope you can find something for me.

Cheers,

Phil.

Sounds like it is defective and if that is the case you might not want to install it.

I rang Microsoft on their Australian number and it seemed to go through to a girl/woman in China or somewhere who asked who was my virus protection provider and I said Norton 360. She said it was caused by a virus and their charge was $120 for fixing it. I said, "No thanks." The alternative is to consult Norton/Symantec. I am considering that path. No explanation as to why 11 updates were installed and 1 not!
