Hi all

Undecided about upgrading to Win7, in the mean time I thought I would try and get Vista working a bit better.

To start with I have been trying to install an update for days without luck, I get the error code 80070490, the update says it is Hewlett Packard Enterprise WSD Multi-Function Printer, Other Hardware -Null Printer - HP Envy 5530 Series.

I have only had the 5530 a few weeks but it is working fine so have no idea what this update is for or why it will not install.

Any help is always appreciated.

Actually, I had the same error with the recent MS updates. There is a good chance that the readiness tool will help, it solved my problem

Before you start any fixes like this always be sure to make a system restore point. I have found it something can go wrong it always does. The Restore will let you go back to before the problem.

BTW If the tool does not work, and you have a problem only with the one update and the printer is working fine, just right click on the update and then click on hide. You will not see the update again.

Many thanks, yes I will make a restore point first. Yes, this is the only update I am having problems with. It I hide it will it not show on the shut down button at close down?

Give us a screen shot, I do not know what you are referring to.
Noting the I told you to do requires the Windows DVD.

You did a good job with the screen shot.
What it is saying
try using the readiness tool first. If that does not work, it is suggesting a repair install, with your install DVD. If you have one, try a repair install. If you received one with your computer, when you bought it, it is not the right one. If you bought Vista and installed it with a DVD, that is the one needed. If you do not have one, let us know and we can get you one free, compliments of the Forum

Hi again, thank you.

Vista was already installed but I am sure a copy of Vista was included, I will find it. Thank you for the offer of the DVD, good to know it would be available to me Thank you.

BTW I am not sure I am thanking you at thumbs up, I hope so.

My Computer

If you bought your computer with Vista installed the DVD will not work for this purpose.
Do you want the install DVD?
You have to click on the thumbs up and then wait for the message.
