Hi,
I am trying to download SP1 on my 32-bit vista home basic. i tried through the windows update in control panel without any success so I downloaded the standalone package and tried that too. however, i keep getting error code 0x800B0100 ... i have run Check Disk to fix errors on my hard drive. run the system update readiness tool all to no avail. I'm a complete computer noob and i am mighty frustrated at the moment. can anyone help?
Thanks in advance.

Hi kilakhan, if you are trying to restore your Vista PC from a factory image, you might want to take a look at the "Vista ISO download" thread in General Discussions forum before proceeding further. If you prefer doing it the hard way (maybe your factory image includes software that you want), I think the first thing you should do is run sfc /scannow from an elevated command prompt to see if there are any missing or corrupt system files and whether or not they can be repaired. It's actually not surprising that SP1 wouldn't install correctly via Windows Update (it happens quite regularly), but it does concern me that the standalone package gave you an error. Of course you could google "0x800B0100 vista sp1" or something along those lines to see what has been suggested in the past. BTW have any earlier updates failed?

Hi,
Sorry for reply so late. What I want is to get the latest version of Internet Explorer. To do that I have to update my Windows Vista up to SP 2. It has no service packs installed on it and I tried to install SP 1 and got the error code 0x800B0100.
I saw in this forum someone with a similar problem who was fortunate enough to fix theirs. This is the link.... http://www.vistax64.com/windows-updates/301834-sp1-error-code-0x800b0100-2.html
I am wondering if my issue isnt something similar.
Thanks

Hi,
I have run sfc /scannow and then tried to install the SP1 and still got the same error code.
I also have done the troubleshooting thing unsuccessfully.
