Update madness

Hi,

I'm having to use my iPad to post this issue, because I fear that my newly formatted (2nd time) Acer AS 1410 netbook has too many damaged files. Of 89 updates, 8 failed, with the following annotations:

80072EFE
80072EFD
80004005

under EFE, following were referenced as well: 8000FFFF, 8007000b, 80200010, 80246007, 80070422, 80244019, 8DDD0018, 80244022, 2, 8007218f, 8024402C, 8024401b...

I had tried the SURT gathered from the 7 forums and it never stopped hanging, so finally cancelled that after 5 hours.

I'm wondering if the battle to save this system is just too intimidating, so wanted to post this before I just consign this netbook to the ash heap of history.

Any hope for repair?

Thnaks,

sbuxman

Hello sbuxman, you should consider taking advantage of the "Vista ISO download" thread in the General Discussion forum, unless maybe you are determined to restore from a factory image that includes a pretty good software package. In that case, I would suggest selecting smaller batches of updates in chronological order rather than allowing Windows to attempt automatic installation of 89 updates at once. Do you at least have SP1 to begin with? I'm afraid SP1 rarely if ever installs correctly via Windows Update these days.
