Hi, i tried to install the updates of my syster's laptop, it was so slow not only for Windows Update so i decided to reinstall Windows. All right with the install, all right with the updates, but then SP2 was installed and after that i try to make another updates and it's always seeking for updates, last time at least for 2 hours and i dont retrieve nothing. Many times i reset softwaredistribution folder, tried many microsoft fixes, but the problem is there and i dont know how to fix it, any help please?

Welcome to Vista Forums elc79. The issue you describe is very familiar to other Vista users. Unfortunately it seems to be Microsoft's fault and there is no known fix at the user end. See http://www.vistax64.com/windows-updates/303992-windows-update-just-seems-hang-while-checking.html.

SP2 was released in 2009, so the number of updates since then is very large. My best advice is to change the setting for Windows Update to either "never check for updates" or "check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them." Allow as many hours as it takes to check for updates, then deselect a large majority of them and install only relatively small batches at one time (I would suggest less than ten).

I would go with the notify you of updates option and then forget about them
Windows will eventually catch up with you
If you are installing an update and it gets stuck, then is the time to rename the software distribution folder
(you have to stop Windows update service first, and restart it again after)
Full instructions have been given earlier on the thread mentioned by Vistaar

It's strange, Windows Update it's so slow, but i can download manually any update from Microsoft and it's quick, and later install these updates one by one, install one, reboot and install another, because if i try to install one after another without reboot the installer stucks seeking for updates, i don't know why the installes seeks for updates with an independent installer but it was happen.

I think is a trouble caused by Microsoft, they want you to migrate to newest software, but what do you do if your hardware dont support this new software? Throw the laptop to the trash? This really sucks.

I left the laptop this morning at 9, note that i am from Spain, and right now Windows Update ended the seeking, 170 updates 541.4mb. It's so slow downloading the updates as is to seek this?
