Townsbg:
I was taken aback by the post/page count of the thread you referred to, and haven't yet yet read through it. But I did read through page 11 of the thread. Frankly, I wondered if this was a mistake referring me to this because much of it seemed unrelated to my problem, ie "
I am liking DuckDuckGo, I tried TOR but its real slow. VPN's might work better. CCleaner is good, I use that all the time.
I think even Yahoo saves your info, so I stopped using that too. Their news service is quite out there in left field. Reporting on stuff no one cares about to fill the pages. Most of the "news" is faked anyway. Glaring spelling mistakes. The writters are probably hired from Jr. High, or Nigeria. Saves them money I guess." and also "Here's something interesting perhaps: I came back from being away and upon boot got a message from Windows Defender that I hadn't updated for a while. (I hadn't received WIndows Updates for at least two weeks.) So I started Windows Updates but after an hour stopped it. I then opened Defender, searched for updates through it and received them in minutes." I'm not trying to be funny here or mock you. I appreciate the time you've offered to help but honestly wondered about the relevance of page 11 to my problem.
But concerning re-installing the Vista OS, I thought myself that was an option I might have to go through. Its not been very many months that I did exactly this and hoped that another solution was available. Does anyone have a reason why this update problem pops up and is there some way to prevent it from happening again?
Thanks for steering me to info about the correct order of installation of updates after re-installation of the Os
One last question. Does this conclude the advice I can expect to help solve my problem with updates or should I wait for some other which would save me the re-install? If not thanks to all for your help, Vistaar and Townsbg.
