Query regaring .Net 1.1

All,

we are a company developing a product on microsoft platform and presently
use .Net 1.1 for development. However we need the product to run on Vista
(obviously) and have the following query -

1. Will .Net 1.1 be installable on the FINAL release of Vista (it used to on
beta 1 but we have faced issues on beta 2)

2. What version of .Net will microsoft ship Vista with?

3. Will the version on .Net shipped with Vista be compatible backwards?

I guess only people from Microsoft could answer these questions
authoritatively, but my understanding is that Vista will ship with the
current production version of .NET Framework 2.0. With today's Vista
schedule, I think it is unlikely that .NET 3.0 will make it to Vista by
default, even partially.

However, depending on your .NET 1.1 application, the chances are it will
work with Vista even though .NET 1.1 would not be installed by default. And
of course, thanks to side-by-side installation support, you should be able
to install .NET 1.1 to Vista if you need it.

Here's a link to a topic that discusses .NET 2.0 backward compatibility:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/netframewo...s/default.aspx

Hope this helps.

Yes--but you will need to install SP1 for .NET 1.1

..NET 3.0--this includes .NET 2.0 plus the foundations (Workflow,
Communication, Presentation)

Yes. .NET 3.0 is available for Windows XP SP2 and Windows Server 2003 SP1

Re: Query regaring .Net 1.1

Hi Lori,

I just wanted to get clarification on this issue, too. Currently our product
comes bundled with the .NET 1.1 framework installer (and the service pack
installer) in case the users don't have it on their system. On XP these
installers work fine, but on Vista RC1 we see a "compatibility issue" screen
come up that informs the user they have to install the service pack 1. Our
concern is that users will not understand this message and may cancel out of
the installer at this point before our installer has a chance to put the
service pack on there for them. My questions are:

1) is this message something that is going to go away when Vista is finally
released?
2) is there a version of the .NET 1.1 installer that already has the service
pack 1 bundled in that would prevent this message from appearing?

Thanks!
Phil
