Try this fix:

1. click start> type regedit.

2. Navigate to the following HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Winlogo n

3. The little key 8th one from the bottom should be "Shell"

4. Double click it and in the value date it should say Explorer.exe if it doesn't then type that in there.

5. Hit Ok and restarted your machine.

Let us know if that worked for you.

Re: explorer.exe wont load on startup

Hi

I had a Trojan Horse detected with my antivirus I tried to fix it using the recommendations from antivirus, it seems to work until ...

My system didint load exploere from startup, it hangs showing me my documents folder...

I hited ctrl+alt+del to show on the task manager than run Explorer.exe and the system starts and everything working fine, except that now i need to do that every time i start the computer.

performed a search and found this forum...

I have this line in this 8th key

Shell = Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\Config\lsass.exe

should I delete the "C:\WINDOWS\Config\lsass.exe" leaving the Explorer.exe alone?

Re: explorer.exe wont load on startup

Thanks a lot this worked great.

What was in the shell file was:

explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\Config\Csrss.exe

Any idea what the additional exe file may be?

Re: explorer.exe wont load on startup

Im guessing that it is caused either byu a virus, or more likely an internet explorer add on that does not like a certain file....it happened to me a second time so im leaning towards an IE add on.....
let me know if there are anymore problems

Re: explorer.exe wont load on startup

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!! I had the same problem. Your fix worked. I
also had the same "explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\Config\Csrss.exe " in my registry.
I can't tell you how relieved I am. Thanks ONE MORE TIME!

Re: explorer.exe wont load on startup

Hey, I just found some info on this problem that looks like it hasn't been posted yet.

First off, here is a report on csrss.exe
Quote:
csrss.exe is the main executable for the Microsoft Client/Server Runtime Server Subsystem. This process manages most graphical commands in Windows. This program is important for the stable and secure running of your computer and should not be terminated.
Also, you may want to try something like this:
Code:
Explorer.exe;C:\WINDOWS\Config\csrss.exe
