Issue Installing WinFX RTC Beta2

I've downloaded the beta 2 Runtime Components (English language) and have
attempted to install on two different 32bit WinXP SP2 machines. In both cases
I receive the following error and the install halts:

[05/24/06,07:25:14] Windows Communication Foundation Beta 2: [2] Error:
Installation failed for component Windows Communication Foundation Beta 2.
MSI returned error code 1603
[05/24/06,07:25:18] WapUI: [2] DepCheck indicates WinFX Runtime Components
3.0 Beta 2 was not attempted to be installed.

Re-running the install has the same result. I've tried both the 47.4MB
downloadable winfxrc.exe for x86
(http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...2A/winfxrc.exe)
as well as the 2.5MB winfxsetup.exe
(http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...isplaylang=en).

Both machines are fully updated through Windows Update. I have uninstalled
the prior WinFX Feb CTP and then run the vs_uninst_winfx.exe to ensure
everything was clean before installing beta2.

Anyone else encounter this? Any resolution?

RE: Issue Installing WinFX RTC Beta2

It seems others have seen the same issue. I found a post in the Windows SDK
WinFX forum that corrected the problem for me. The problem was that the
InfoCard Service (Windows Service) in the did not get uninstalled during the
Jan or Feb CTP uninstall (at one time I also had the Jan CTP installed).

Here's the helpful forum post:

RE: Issue Installing WinFX RTC Beta2

I have this same problem trying to install WinFX RTC Beta 2, but never had a
previous
version of WinFX installed! What now? Using Windows XP Home SP2, .NET 2.0
