calling IE8 64bit version with URL on the Desktop

I found the Flash player pgm (BETA) from Adobe...it works great. So, I want to call up a specific URL from the Desktop that will use the 64bit IE8 vs the 32bit default. What would be the proper syntex for this. I have a 64bit Vista and the IE8 is defaulted to the 32 bit version and can't be changed (that I know of)

This is actually quite easy to do!

32 bit IE = "C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe"
64 bit IE = "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe"

So, the shortcut TARGET to open example.com would be (64bit)

"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" Example Web Page

Good luck!

hmm, taking this a bit further - what would need to be changed to set the 64 bit IE as default?

Well surely you could just modify the shortcut to point to the other Program Files folder. I can certainly modify my shortcut (it is not locked down as the iTunes one often is)

Then, HKCR\.url

OR Start > Default Programs > Set Associations > .url > Browse > C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe

I have probably missed something, but I think that this shows that is is possible.

I just tried your "Default Programs > Set Associations > .url > Browse > C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" and it still calls up the 32 bit IE8. It does create two possible programs to use but you can't select one over the other and it still grabs the 32bit pgm.

Speaking of 32 and 64 bit ie8s, is it possible to take an add on or plug-in from the 32 bit ie and load it into the 64 bit ie? I have a plug-in, PayPal, that they have just stopped using. However, it still works great on my 32 bit ie.

Since I did change the associations for ie, I am getting the box with "Internet Explorer is not you default browser..." How can I revert back and get it back the way it was without doing a recovery point.

Is there not a button to click on where you can make IE your default browser in that dialogue. Otherwise, go into IE9, press the Alt Key, Tools > Programs tab > Make Default
