Clicking on email hyperlinks does not work

I've been experiencing trouble primarily with my email. Today after I downloaded Windows Live Mail 2011 I can now see images in my emails again. However when I click on a hyperlink in an email it does not work. Here's the message I get.

This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Set Associations control panel. My system is Windows Vista Home Basic. I can find the Set Associations, but I am unable to resolve this myself. It has been driving me nuts. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Read this Internet links will not open in Windows Mail
And this Windows Mail does not allow me to open Hyperlinks in Emails - Microsoft Answers
Also this Windows Mail wont open hyperlinks - The NeoSmart Forums

You must associate internet exeplorer with HTML in control panel.
Also check your settings in windows live mail under safty options.

    1. Make sure your WLM 2011 is your default e-mail client.

    2. Make sure your Internet Explorer has all its defaults.

Start button > Default Programs > Set Your Default programs > left column, click Internet Explorer. Does it say " This program has all its defaults " ?
If no, click Choose Defaults for this program > put a checkmark on all entries under the list > click Save

P.S. I am the same t-4-2 that appeared in the Microsoft Answers link.

    t-4-2 .
    - HELLO - Just a gigantic "THANK YOU" to t-4-2 for listing that easy helping hand to we fellow humans.
I have been to approx' 35 different web sites looking for this answer and everything was off-the-track
just enough so it would not work. (specific operating system only, specific for internet explorer only
(yes this worked for firefox!), and of course tons of L O N G directions that not only did not work, but were
very dangerous to someone that does not know exactly what they were doing.
So many people have 1 answer that worked one time for one person, so they add it thinking they sound like
some great mind or super hacker. Worse yet, they type it out in a way where they try to sound/appear like they
    are a... 'super hacker' that doesn't have time to use full words or descriptions. (Example: "This is such an easy fix;
if you os is npr then just ex: run ~ log * mircobrewer error_tandy (make sure to use rinse cycle), reboot in safe,
f4 f8 - should be there - if not kill your os be a Man and revamp with Linux- geesh. I mean this is so easy!")
(know what i mean?) - - - Most (MOST) of the humans searching for these directions are not code readers,
hackerz, or even quite savvy with computers - - so again, a Gigantic 'thank you!' to t-4-2 for giving a straight
to the point answer with clear directions. This American will be singing the Canadian National Anthem today
in praise of your ilks kindness and smarts. Yeah, that's right I typed that!
    Be well. love, Love, LOVE.
