I am using windows Vista... and i use Windows Live Mail [WLM] to access my Hotmail Accounts, Contacts, Calendar, etc. Yesterday... i downloaded/updated a Windows Live Essentials [WLE] 2011 UPDATE as automatically reminded by Windows during my start-up.

i have now lost all my Contacts in WLM... How do i recover my Contacts please ???.

History:
i had updated & fine tuned my NEW Contact List [NCL] with 1200+ Contacts... without signing into my Hotmail, Live, or Messenger Account. i usually have no need to sign in as i am able to receive/send emails via WLM without having to sign in. my NCL Contacts was working excellent with WLM [for many weeks] and i was able to send/receive emails etc as normal.

Windows than suggested that i update/download WLE [which i accepted]... and i have now lost my NCL Contacts... after the WLE update/download.

the WLE download/update has made the system find & display an old online contact list which is of no relevance to me now.

NOTE: I am using Windows Vista... and my NCL Contacts were updated/fine-tuned OffLine [ie: not OffLine as in not being connected to the www... but OffLine as in not being 'signed in' to hotmail, live, messenger etc].

How can i recover the NEW Contact List [NCL] that i previously had/used on WLM [OffLine] prior to the WLE update.

#####################################################

My Step By Step process
  • i usually click on the Window Live Mail [WLM] icon on my desktop screen & and this takes me to... Inbox-WLM
  • when in Inbox-WLM... i can check all my emails in my inbox, sent items, junk mail, etc.
  • i am also able to... reply, reply all, fw, send new message, etc... from this screen.
  • if i type in the first few letters of a name in my ‘To... Box’ = then that name is automatically retrieved form my Contacts List [CL] and i simply send an email to that person or persons.
Now...

at the bottom left corner of my Inbox-WLM screen... is my Email, Calendar, Contacts List [CL], icons. i can move between these by simply clicking on the relevant icons.
  • i click on CL and it comes up with all my Contacts details & Contact Categories/Groups etc [but at the moment.. this an Old CL from somewhere].
  • i usually update any ‘changes’ or ‘new contacts’ to the CL and have been doing this for many years.
  • this is then prompted with ‘Save’ and the changes are ‘Saved’ instantly.
  • this ‘Save’ function was definitely actioned as my CL was updated with the changes and my New CL [NCL] was used repeatedly for many weeks... without any problems.
  • Note 1: whenever i go into contacts [after saving changes] all my contacts are displayed & all changes updated as requested/Saved.
  • Note 2: I am using Windows Vista [updated daily], IE9, WLM Version 2011 (Build 15.4.3555.0308), Windows Live Essentials 2011 [WLE]. I have no real reason to use WLE but my laymans understanding is that i am required to do so... to use WLM via Vista.
  • Note 3: my Contacts are usually updated/fine-tuned OffLine [ie: not Offline as in not being connected to the www... but Offline as in not being 'signed in' to hotmail, live, messenger etc].
  • this has been working great until my recent WLE update/download.
Further Info:
  • the NCL that i had on my last visit [before the WLE update] has been replaced by an old/previous CL which is completely outdated & of no significance now. i suspect the CL that is now showing an old CL from Hotmail/WLM OnLine.
  • the WLE update process/download has removed my NCL [ie: my most recent updated CL] and replaced it with an old CL from somewhere !!!.
  • the NCL i am trying to find/recover is the last NCL that i used regularly without any problems prior to the recent WLE update.
  • this NCL worked brilliantly but it was usually used/updated OffLine [ie: not OffLine as in not being connected to the www... but OffLine as in not being 'signed in' to hotmail, live, messenger etc].
  • i usually operate/use all my email features OffLine via WLM as i have no real need to sign on OnLine. i think this is the real problem... as the CL being given to me now is an old CL from some previous OnLine version of Hotmail, Live, etc.

so where has my usual/normal NCL gone & how do i recover ????.
