Can't access Internet Explorer.

Hello.

This is my first post on these forums though I have browsed looking for help. If I'm posting in the wrong forum please redirect me.

I have read through your new user thread so I'll try to be as plain as possible and if you ask me a question which I can't answer I'll look it up and try to reply as fully as possible. I can find my around the computer and try to muddle through but I have a couple of niggles which I just can't sort out so would appreciate some help please.

I have an HP computer on which I run Vista 32-bit. My main browser is Firefox with Internet Explorer as a back up. For weeks now I have been getting the notification 'Plug in container for Firefox has stopped working,' and this occurs on one FreeForum that I visit. Because of this I went back over to IE and can access nothing there as I get the notification 'DEP has closed Windows Explorer,' and I can't keep the window open long enough to press Alt+H to get what version of IE I'm using.

I don't know whether these problems are all linked but I have 1 important update to install which is Cumulative Security for IE9 forWindows Vista and when I try the update fails and I get error code 8E5E03FB.

I would appreciate some advice please.

Thank you

Poppygran.

Thank you for the reply richc46.
I have done a full scan with Malawarebytes and that came up fine. I'll follow the rest of your advice and let you know how I get on.

I have followed the instructions as set out in the link you kindly gave me but no luck, the IE problem was still there when I restarted so I followed the instructions and returned to normal start up mode.

OK
Give this a try. Create a new user account and see if it works in that account. If it does your present user account is corrupt.

Richc46 I got off to a good start with a new user account and when I was asked which toolbars I wanted to install I clicked 'Ask' for Avira to make things easy and IE stopped working with the same notification.

If you can get IE to work, you do not need a tool bar. IE has its own favorites.
Im trying to get you up and running with a minimum of additional software. In that way we can determine the cause.

You said that you were OK with the new account until you tried the tool bar. Create another account. If you can get the scan to work, run it. If you cannot get it to work post back and we will try to get a system restore in safe mode (that should work).

I can't do a scan richc46 as when I try to get permission to scan I'm asked for an administrator password which I don't have. It won't accept my Windows mail password and I don't have another.

My Computer

Are your accounts adminstrator accounts?

This account I set up today is the only account I have apart from my account that I log in with but I've never needed passwords as no-one else uses my computer. Should I create an administrator account with a password? If so I can do that tomorrow.

My Computer

Yes, you need an adminstrator account. Its needed to make changes that may be necessary, now.

I have created an administrator account, logged in typed SFC in the search box it appears as though it's going to run then it just fades away so I haven't been able to scan Internet Explorer.

I realise that allowing the Aviria toolbar to download was the wrong thing to do but when I have tried to remove it from the control panel on both accounts it's saying I don't have the rights to do this.

I'm not getting very far here richc46.

I followed your instructions and right clicked 'run as administrator,' a black box appeared on the screen and then faded. I went into properties, advanced, ticked 'Run as Admin,' and again it faded away. I haven't a clue how to use the special administrator link you gave me, I feel useless!
