I have just downloaded and installed the latest version of flash player, the problem
is that it keeps telling me that i need the new version of flash player to run
some of my programmes even though i have the new version installed. (see attached)
can anyone please help.

Cal,
Just and educated guess based on experience. I think that you have remnants of the older version. Uninstall with revo uninstaller (I think that we used it before). Then install the new version. Boot after uninstall.

hi everyone
thanks to everyone for your help and advice. I have solved my problem, I opened up my manage- add -ons and I noticed that shockwave flash object was disabled.
I enabled it and this has resolved the problem.
I hope this has helped anyone who has had same problem as me.
