Does anyone know how to get rid of that message which comes up constantly in IE 9?

That feature is called Add-on Performance Advisor. Clicking "Don't disable" keeps the notification away for 30 days (or until you install a new add-on), whereas clicking "Ask me later" only stops the notification for one day. The method I always used was to click "Choose add-ons" and then configure the delay threshold in the lower portion of the window that opens:

Choose Add-ons.JPG

It is not necessary to wait until the notification reappears in order to adjust the threshold. In IE, make sure that the Command Bar is displayed (Brink has written about that: Internet Explorer Command Bar - Turn On or Off - Windows 7 Help Forums). Click on the Tools menu in the Command Bar and select Toolbars > Disable add-ons.

Home versions of Vista have no Group Policy GUI, so those are the only available options for average users. Disabling the notifications via Group Policy or the registry is discussed at How to Disable, but I haven't tried it. Of course this feature can be beneficial for average users who install add-ons (perhaps unwittingly) and later wonder why IE is so slow.

Thanks to both of you for your replies.

The procedure recommended by townsbg has never stopped it for more than a day.

I'll try the method provided by Vistaar for changing the threshhold and report back. I don't want to disable all my add-ons. I already selectively do that in the add-on section because some add-ons come in a package and I don't want to disable all of them in the package.

I don't have that option.

I found this-

http://winsupersite.com/article/win...er-9-feature-focus-add-on-performance-advisor

It's perfect because it tells you how to do a registry edit to change the value. I changed the .2 value to 1 per the directions. We'll see how it works.
If you're comfortable editing the registry, then that should be another way to raise the delay threshold.

Since you're using IE 9, please tell me what happens if you go to YouTube ? BTW were you successful in installing IE 10 for Windows 7?

That was on my Vista system. I just tried it in Win 7 which has IE 10 and the applicable entry for changing the value isn't there.

This pretty much repeats what Vistaar said to do-

https://www.winhelp.us/internet-explorer-10.html

I also found a blog how to remove the advisor all together but don't want to go to that extreme.

Hi Vistaar-

Seems we were typing at the same time.

I haven't seen that message this morning so I can't verify if what townsbg said about the feature not being availabe is true.

Yes, I have IE 10 on my Win 7 system.

I have to reboot the Vista system for the change to take effect. I'll do that later and get back to you.

I'm curious about your question concerning YouTube. I've never had a problem with it.

It's a Google website, and their end-of-support policies are giving Vista users a hard time. When I try to open their home page using IE 9, I see the message I posted here: http://www.vistax64.com/browsers-ma...g-google-chrome-updates-soon.html#post1405973. I was just wondering if all IE 9 users get that, or if it might be because Firefox or a specific IE add-on is detected. If you do see the message, do you also get that with IE 10?

Thanks for that. A little experimenting shows that clicking "No thanks" on the YouTube message only works if cookies are allowed in IE 9. You can however use their search engine and play videos without allowing cookies. I hope wither 3 will let us know if IE 10 is getting the same treatment. I suppose we're going off topic, but at least this is an IE 9 thread and there haven't been many of those lately.

I finally rebooted. When I go to youtube.com, I get this message-

In IE 10, I get the message that-

If I close that message, youtube opens.

Thank you wither 3 for the extra information about YouTube's reaction to older IE versions. The message you see in IE 10 is exactly what IE 9 users were seeing until Google recently turned up the heat. I see (or rather Google sees) that your Vista is 64 bit, and that you have Firefox installed. I relied on IE 9 for years, but I now think Firefox is the best browser for Vista.
