ok. i want to use a palm,blackberry phones as a pda only. my prupose is to use it as a ebook reader using mobi ebook reader. but i saw some smart phones

my question is it possible just to use old regular smartphones as ebook reader, EVEN IF THEIR LOCKED TO THEIR PROVIDER?? can i just not even plug in a sim card and use it as only a ebook reader?
