Last night I was watching an online movie on YouTube and instead of turning off my computer, I set the computer on hibernate mode. I woke up this morning and saw that computer keeps restarting and crash dump with the message I pasted on the bottom. Anyone knows how to fix this? My computer trys to restart itself.. so I just turned it off. Then restart it and still the same issue was there.

i am having the same problem. i was playing AoC last night and noticed there was an update so i set it up to install it and went to sleep when i woke up in the morning i turned on the computer to check my facebook and it just kept giving me the blue screen so the computer only being 2 weeks old i took it back to best buy to get a new one (same comp just exchanged) pull it right out of the box and do the registration and all that jazz and then go to update windows and soon as its done downloading says i need to reset my comp so i do it comes back into vista i can mess around for a few seconds then bam blue screen of death, im trying the recovery manager on it now but it had to have been the update that was posted last night

Check event viewer for any problems - filter the System Log by error and critical events. Upload the .dmp files as Ken said or take a look at the guide in my sig.

My computer is about 2 months old - no problems til last night - shut down when I went to bed and it installed updates prior to shutting down. When I booted in the morning, error message said computer did not shut down properly - seconds later blue screen.
I did system restore - computer seemed fine - went to windows update and downloaded most recent updates - on reboot the same thing happened - but this time computer crashed twice before going to blue screen. I did another system restore and am afraid to do any more automatic updates.

Not real computer savvy but I get around a little - any help you can suggest so I can figure out what is causing this, would be appreciated.

Can I say the same thing happened to me! I feel like today after the latest windows update my computer has been all screwed up. And its a brand new Sony Vaio (1 week old). It kept shutting down and a blue screen would pop up saying

I went back to the restore point prior to the update and so far so good. But im scared to do updates. I want to know if this is something I did or if it could just be the PC because I want to return it if it is. Seriously driving me nuts. Anyhelp appreciated!

Upload the .dmp files for the BSOD or follow the guide in my sig. Remember to always restart after any updates.

Thanks Frostmourne. I'm sorry if this is a dumb statement, but I can't seem to find the minidump folder in windows.
I know the location is C:\Windows\Minidump\Mini082609-04.dmp, but it isn't coming up in my searches either. I'm sort of baffled

My Computer

Open up Windows Explorer. Then select system properties in the toolbar. Then select advanced system settings, then the settings in the startup and recovery section. Note the location of the dump file. Then highlight it, Ctrl+C to copy and then paste Ctrl+V into Windows Explorer.

So I did as you suggested but its strange, it says the location does not exist. Is it possible that no dmp file was created or that it was erased by my restoring it to an earlier point? Appreciate the help - sorry if I seem hopeless!

My Computer

Paste the first part, without the .dmp extension. I overlooked that:o. If you can't find any .dmp files then they might have been cleaned up by programs such as CCcleaner or Glary Utilities.

I do selective windows updates, and I've been checking the forum for several days because I've had this problem since the weekend. My desktop rebooted itself, but I didn't get to read the message before the reboot. I don't know if an update had installed that required an reboot, or if this was due to VZ Home Media Manager that I was causing other problems before I uninstalled it. If it's a Microsoft issue, I think they owe bunches of us an explanation.

I don't want to reinstall Vista but what about reinstalling SP2? Has anyone tried to see if that would work? I just downloaded it to a flash drive, but not sure yet how to run it on the desktop if I can't even get to a cmd prompt!

Thanks! I found it, but this forum wont let me upload .dmp files.

Try my guide if you can boot vista. Its not too difficult. If the .zip file isn't too big, upload it.
