Blue Screen of Death

Hey.
Yesterday, I attempted to use my webcam for the first time in weeks via Facebook. When I tried to do this, I got a BSoD, so the PC was restarted. I tried to use it on Windows Live Messenger and it happened again.
I realize that this has something to do with the drivers.

Here are more details:

I recovered this information in the Windows Troubleshooting department.
Also, another file name was mentioned:
On the blue screen I saw...
ArcsoftKSUFilter.sys as a failing application.
ArcSoft came with my laptop as the webcam driver.

I install Windows updates when available, I think that may be the problem.
However, I am unsure.

System data:
OS: Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit SP2
RAM: 4GB
CPU: Pentium(R) Dual-Core CPU t4200 @2.00 GHz

It is a Sony Vaio VGN-NS330J bought in November, 2009.

I look forward to a solution of my problem.
Thank you anyone, who is trying to help me.

I can't help you, but for others to be able to help you you will need to upload the following files in this folder:

C:\Windows\Minidump

I may have been a little awkward on details.
It's just anytime I wish to use the webcam, via any application (Windows Live Messenger, Facebook) It ceases and displays the BSoD!

I am not sure if I am able to upload a .dmp file.
I uploaded it here, it reached 100% and really I'm not sure if it's attached.

There are 4 of these files in the dump folder because I've attempted to start the webcam 4 times, are all required?

There is an error while trying to upload the dump file! :/

Add it to a zipped archive and upload that.

Or upload it to:

Well thank you, I will re-install the webcam drivers, and incase that does not work, I have attached the Minidump file created when the BSoD occurred.

Is there any chance that a Windows update may have screwed the drivers up?

Perhaps, but I don't know yet. Let us know how the driver update goes

I think the good news is that you know what has promted the BSOds - the installation (see below - may not be that) and use of the webcam.

Have you checked online for updated drivers? Also, I assume the drivers say they are 64 bit compatible (please forgive me if these are obvious statements and you have already done all that).

Is the webcam built into the laptop and did it have default drivers installed when you purchased the laptop? If not have you uninstalled ArcsoftKSUFilter.sys?

Also, you mentioned that when you used it recently - did it used to work ok? If so, what have you installed since? Hardware and software. May be worth trying a restore point?

I have check for updates, it says that the drivers are already updated. The webcam is built it and I bought it with all drivers installed. The file ArcsoftKSUfilter.sys is still there. And I do not know where to find the drivers to re install if I uninstall them

I wish to thank everyone who attempted to help me.
But now, I have bigger fish to fry.
I attempted a system restore however when Vista was editing the Registry...the power went out and my battery was not in.
When I tried to turn the PC on, it gave me a BsOD..

*** STOP: 0x0000C1F5 (0xFFFFFFFFC01A000A, 0XFFFFFA80050FE000, 0X0000000000000000, 0X0000000000000000

It will not boot into safe mode, or any other modes. Now when I press F8 to trigger the Advanced Start up Options, nothing shows up...it goes straight to the BSoD.

Many said to Boot from a Windows 7 DVD which I did...I did not install it but Microsoft said it would repair the $TxFlog file that is damaged...No such luck.

Another option is to use a Linux-based program SystemRescueCD to repair the file. I have PartedMagic Live CD, but Idk any commands by Linux..the furthest I went was to mount the hard drive. Other commands posted online do not work.

A lot may be wrong here...but I have 48 GB of music, and about 12 GB of dvds and videos I need...I will die if I lost them...I just need them out...and I'll wipe the entire computer...get it at factory settings!!

If you have access to a working PC to download and burn a CD and have
a USB flash drive, consider booting into Ubuntu Live CD to retrieve your files.

(When used as a Live CD Ubuntu loads into memory without installing to the hard drive)

It has a GUI similar to Windows and no special
knowledge of Linux commands should be needed.

All that you would be doing is navigating the file system
and doing copy/paste to the USB drive.

Thank you man.
Ubuntu will take a long time to download, I'm sure. I will certainly use that as an OS on partition in the future.
I'll be taking it to a computer shop and they Parted Magic CD from Linux will get me access to my hard disk and backup the relevant data.
So, the guys will format the drive and re-install Windows.
It's best for the Registry which are probably choked up and the drivers which failed the webcam.

So I would like to close this thread and thank everyone who tried to help me.
Thanks,
Kevon.

If you want to take your Personal Files off the HDD Try taking the HDD out and placing it into a caddy then you will be able to use it as an external drive by Plugging it into another computer and transferring you files then Place it back into the old computer and restore it to Factory Settings.

Hope This Helps,
Josh
