A strange problem:
I recently upgraded VISTA x64 to SP2 and several other upgrades at the same time. I should have backed up - but did not completely. System Restore before the VISTA upgrade did not help.
1) When the pc boots, I boot successfully into Windows. However, the network does not work and many other functions do not work (cannot run msconfig).
2) When I reboot into SAFE Mode with Networking, everything was OK.
3) Through process of elimination (a long one), I managed to find out that if I disabled "Server" Services in msconfig, the system rebooted fine and worked very well. Except there was no information in the Network Name System Properties screen.
4) The process is very repeatable. With "Server" enabled, bad operation, with "Server" unchecked (disabled) nearly perfect operation.
Has anyone else seen this problem? My guess, is that something in the "Server" routines is corrupted. Any suggestions on a repair, because I would like to use the computer to host a printer to the network.
