Hi there

New here, the wife turned on her dell inspiron laptop this morning, was using it fine, then msn started up and froze the system, so she pressed CTRL ALT DEL but nothing happened, the whole machine was completely frozen.

Turned it off, left it for a min or two, turned back on and now getting all sorts of error messages and strange goings on!

When I turn on I get windows error recovery
Launch startup or start normally

I tried start normally,

It started to load up, the black screen with green bar was on, from there it would usually go to the log on screen but it's taken me right back to the windows error recovery

Launched start up repair

Same again green bar screen but now it sat on just total black screen, after a while the mouse pointer is visible, I can move mouse but nothing to click or anything!
It then moves on to what looks like the vista log on screen but there is nothing on the screen, I know this may be confusing but bear with me

So I'm now on a grey screen, a box pops up and says

WinReLauncher.exe - Corrupt File
The file or directory
X:\windows\system32\WinReLauncher.exe.LOG is corrupt and unreadable. Please run chkdsk utility.

All I can do is press the OK box that's on it it.

Another box very similar pops up and says

WinReLauncher.exe - Corrupt File
The file or directory
X:\windows\system32\ is corrupt and unreadable. Please run chkdsk utility.

I pressed ok again and the same box as previous comes up again, then similar box again but this time all it says is

WinReLauncher.exe - Corrupt File
The file or directory
X: is corrupt and unreadable. Please run chkdsk utility.

Press ok again and now Im just sitting on this grey screen for ages,

I hope I've been clear and any help will be greatly appreciated! I'll try to answer any questions that you have!

I suggest starting all troubleshooting with the following diagnostic tests. They'll save you a lot of time and heartache if there is a hardware failure, and you'll have the disks on hand in case you need them in the future:
H/W Diagnostics:
Please start by running these bootable hardware diagnostics:
Memory Diagnostics (read the details at the link)
HD Diagnostic (read the details at the link)

Also, please run one of these free, independent online malware scans to ensure that your current protection hasn't been compromised: Malware (read the details at the link)
