When uninstalling programs, get Windows Installer error: 1: The InstallScript Engine is missing from this machine. If available run ISScript.msi..I found ISScript at a web sight link recommended by Microsoft forum..Was a zip file ISScript7x[1] i unzipped and downloaded to desk top..when you right click on it properties says created 6-13-2002 12:53PM and Modified 1-13-2011 11:22Pm 617KB..I have tried to run/install it 1.double click 2.click on "open with" (default is Windows Installer) 3.open run box and type in ISScript.msi 4.run button with browse to desktop. 5. Right click and click run..It appears to run/install with InstallShield and goes through the various steps and then says: "Installation Successful" , but I still get same error.. I found out how to run System File Checker tool..ran it and got message that 3 or 4 files had been repaired..but still get same error..Found InstallScript Engine700Update and ran it..NO LUCK.. I had been deleting files (like a dummy)to try to get rid of InstallIq which came with I-Tunes that I downloaded and then decided I didn't want..InstallIQ Updater kept running in background..taking up resources, updating itself, telling me to install I-Tunes & Safari and spying on me to 3rd parties from what I read on the web.ANYWAY..I guess I corrupted Windows Installer or InstallShield or something and can't uninstall programs..maybe install too even tho I don't get an error when installing stuff..Can you PLEASE HELP....THANKS IN ADVANCE....pharmerbill....I am running Vista Home basic 32 bit on a Dell Inspiron 531S

If you have the Vista install CD, you can try a repair install

That would be the reinstall DVD, but we do not need that drastic action yet. Did you see the post about System Restore, that should fix the problem.

Unfortunately, I've been having issues with my DVDRom (for about 3 months of attemped fixes)...it plays CD (data, audio, programs) but won't play anything but a DVD+R I burned myself..and only media player clasic will play it..I've advice from Microsoft answers..Dell community, microsoft.com..nothing works..I think maybe the lens is defective..The Dell installation DVDs won't work..I may have to buy an external DVDRom.
Getting back to Uninstall problems...I have gone to the InstallShield web site, but all the SScript.msi versions are not the one I have.. I have InstallShield version 4.1.00 and Windows Installer Version 4.5...I just put in the Nikon software suite CD that came with my camera and it installed the programs no problem (I had corrupted the files trying to get rid of apps I didn't need that were running in the background and using resources..Unfortunately that started give me "side-by-side" program errors in Event log..I just reinstalled everything.. I searched for & found 4 instances of msiexec.exe in files and tried to "run" but all the different ways of getting a program to run only brought up a kind of an information box about windows installer that listed what I think are command line commands:

I'm not sure what all that means or what it is. Under Install Options are those commands to install the program using the command prompt box? if so what exactly are you supposed to type in where their example says: </package I/i>Product.msi> Are you supposed to substitute the name of the program for package and if so, what exactly do you type????? That is a little to technical for me, but I did figure out how to run sfc/scannow in the command box and it found and repaired 3 or 4 files, but I guess not the InstallShield Windows Installer problem.

I've tried several restore points, but unfortunately, I think the corruption occured a few weeks ago (not sure exactly how long ago) when I got crazy deleting files trying to get rid of InstallIQ..I had been trying to free up space and deleted all but the most recent restore points..I've tried Check Disk..I think it's supposed to find bad files and fix them, but that didn't help..I think I'll try again just in case.

OK I'll try. When you schedule the disc check (c:/properties,tools) check both boxes.
Then go to start type cmd hold shift and ctrl press enter do the sfc /scannow again restart and if problems were found run it again (up to 3 times)
Download Revo-Uninstaller and try that in normal mode first (hunter mode later if needed)
When you run Revo it will start the program you are removing's own uninstaller first.
If the programs uninstaller asks to restart, click no and let Revo run first
As an example after I removed Vodafone mobile from my laptop with their uninstaller Revo found 1400 files left behind.

Download Revo Uninstaller Freeware - Free and Full Download - Uninstall software, remove programs, solve uninstall problems

Free version at bottom left of page.

I can now uninstall in the usual manner..I also downloaded Revo Uninstaller and It seems like it's a really nice program..I just spent the last half hour getting acquainted with the program..1.Which features do you use/like the most?.I got rid of a bunch of "junk Files"...2. Do you think I should delete all traces of recycle bin stuff?
THANKYOU SO MUCH

P.S. I clicked on your scales
P.P.S. FYI: I had been having virus issues(Exploit:Java-/CVE2010-0840.W) Microsoft SafetyScan detected it but "couldn't remove"..Microsoft virus help 866-727-2338 did free remote assist and removed it.(McAfee hadn't detected it & remote assist tech told me I didn't have a virus!!!) It was in the Java cache file (c:users\(Bill in my case)\appdata\locallow\sun\java\deployment\cache\6.0 and then the cache file numer (1st time it was 13..2nd time 34)..It came back 3 times but safety scan was able to remove it those times..I ended up unchecking "keep temporary Java internet files on my computer" in the Java control panal under "temporary internet files" "settings" on the "general" tab and it stopped reappearing...Maybe this info will help someone else..
3. P.P.P.S. I downloaded SuperAntispyware but never installed it..Do you think it's worth keeping??
