Vista; black screen blinking cursor

Hi, I'm running on a Vista. HP pavilion slimline. x64

I don't know what happened, I was just watching dramas online and then mozilla just crashed. I opened it again and thought it was nothing but it crashed once again and stuffs started popping up. I dont remember exactly what it was but then the programs on my desktop disappeared, leaving only my folders and programs like keygen on the desktop screen.

Then system fix? popped up and did its work but some of them failed so I restarted my computer. After that I cannot go on it because it would just go into a black screen with a blinking cursor on the top left side. I had to close the computer forcefully by clicking the power button.

I opened my computer again and it goes to this page;
ImageShack® - Online Photo and Video Hosting
I tried clicking system recovery (F11) but it goes back to the black screen and the blinking cursor.

I tried diagnostics and it did some stuffs and the computer rebooted but it continued back into the black screen and blinking cursor.
I tried all the other buttons but none of them work and the black screen with blinking cursor keeps coming back.

Please Help.
Thank You!

Well..I'm waiting for the ubuntu to download right now.
But right after I burn the disc, do I just open my computer and insert the disc?
Cuz the problem is that I can't get into my desktop screen.

In either case, continue to download. If you can, we know that there is no computer problem, its software and we will proceed accordingly.
Good luck

I have a problem, I only have a 2gb USB..
All I actually need to backup are some folders that are related to school stuffs.
Most of the folders are on Document folders and some are on desktop.
What should I do?

You can choose what to back up, if you can install Ubuntu.

Getting my folderls back were a success.
I think that is all I need.
I think I am ready for the next step.
But is there anything else that I need? Cuz I'm not sure.

My Computer

You just accomplished two steps. You were able to get your stuff back and you also have shown me that the problem is the software and not the computer.
What is the make and model of your computer?

Just try to boot normally. Then begin to press f11. Try it twice if it does not work. First time, just press it.
The second time press and release quickly and repeatedly.

What do you mean it is restored to 2 days ago? Do you mean that you used System Restore?
