Lost game programs, etc.

When I try to open any of the Windows games, or even the "Games" folder, I see a quick flash of a window opening then closing. I can't find any of it anywhere. Went to Programs in Control Panel to try to turn on features, but the window was empty. Also, I've tried searching the hard drive for them, but when I type info into the search box and hit Enter, nothing happens.

I ran a scan, and found a "wajam" malware.

It's my mother's computer, and she's 66. I just set her up a FB account. From what she is saying, this started after she "looked around" on it. I cleaned it up, but still nothing. Any ideas? Thanks.

Wajam is a browser add-on, not malware, and shouldn't have any impact on your ability to open games.

Go here-

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games

Are the games there?

Yes, but they won't open. When I turned the computer on just now, it had a startup problem and had to run startup repair. Not sure what the problem is.

Are you able to open any of the game folders in the path I provided.

If you right click on a .exe file for one of the games and select "run as administrator", what happens?

None of them would open. On right-click, I got an error message:

User Account Control

If you go to control panel, Users, and shut off the User Access Control, do you get the same problem?

When I click User Access Control, it says "Windows needs your permission...". I click Continue, and nothing happens.

Let me get this straight.

You open Control Panel and select User Accounts. Is there a icon for Administrator on the right hand side?

You then select "Turn User Account off or on". If you click in the box to turn the User Account off, Windows should merely say that you need to restart the computer.

Yes, Administrator icon. Click "Turn User Account Off or On", a pop-up comes on for "Windows needs permission...". Click "Continue", and nothing else at all happens.

When I turned the computer on just now, it had boot problems. Had "Press F1 for Setup", then I exited setup. It finally booted the third time. Can't do a System Restore because it says it doesn't have any restore points saved. No idea what happened there. When I turned it on today, the power strip had been turned off. Apparently, my 1 1/2 year-old grand-niece has a habit of crawling under the desk to get around the baby gate and turns the power strip off. Possible Windows corruption from too much of that?

I'm at a loss right now. We can't find the Windows CD. About the only thing on here is pictures and geneology info. I'm about ready to toss the whole thing, but don't have money for a new one.

Is the only problem that you still can't load Microsoft games?

What is a FB account?
