External Hard Drive, is it dead?

I got this external hard drive about a year or two ago.
And yesterday it started to beep.
I ignored it. Since I thought it was one of my Tomagotchi's all "feed me!"
But when I plugged it in today, its beeping.
My computer can't locate the hard drive at all.
Just says the usual C and D hard drive.

Is the external hard drive dying?
Can it be fixed?

Help. ;-;

Try taking the drive out and hook it up directly to your computer and see if your computer sees and can access the drive.

I did that just now, but it didn't work.
I thought it was just this computer so I used my sisters computer and its the same.
The computer can't locate the external and it still does the beeping.
