(Unofficial) drivers for Epson Perfection 1660 scanner

I had a bear of a time trying to find Vista x64 drivers for this scanner, so with some help from "Smoove Love" over at PlanetAMD64 forums, I was able to deconstruct the x64 drivers for the Perfection 2400 and create a driver install package for the 1660.

This driver set should install the printer with the correct name and in the the correct registry location.

While the drivers work fine for me, I take no responsibility for its effects on your system or registry. Use at your own risk/discretion. Drop me a PM if you have any questions!

I needed a place to upload the file, so I put it on Megaupload, hope that's ok!

Hey man,
Up until 2 days ago I was using a sony vaio I bought in 1999. I was forced to get a new system because computers age like dogs; so my pc was 70 and done. Photoshop was kicking it's ass. I draw for a living ( Arzeno on deviantART ) and other than the pc itself my wacom tab and scanner are absolute necessities. Wacom has driver ready to go, they're a great company. Epson however, still to date does not provide a driver for vista 64. After frantically searching for one everywhere else, this post came up in a google search. Without hesitation I followed you link and gave it a shot.
Dude, I joined the forum today just to thank you for creating this driver! It works even better than the one I was using on my xp system. Thank you, thank you, thank you! You are a genius and a godsend.

Your fan,
-Rey

I recently converted to Windows XP x64 and was horrified to find that my beloved Epson 1660 didn't work. I looked all over for a driver and finally stumbled upon this forum. I downloaded the driver hoping that it might work on XP x64 as well. I installed it without having first uninstalled the Epson Smart Panel. The new Epson Scan app ran fine, but the old software still didn't work. So I uninstalled the Smart Panel and the Epson Scan stopped working - evidently the uninstall of the Smart Panel got rid of some DLLs common (in name) to both packages. I reinstalled the driver and it works like a charm. My compliments and thanks to the uploader. It is a sad state of affairs when a company the size of Epson is unwilling to devote a few hours of manpower to support a product that just happens to no longer be in production. This happened to me once before with Logitech. I can't punish them since they stopped making scanners. But I sure can punish Epson.

Great Work! I've had to use my scanner on my dads old crap laptop ever since i got vista x64. This will save a lot of time, I thought id make an account and say thanks for your work.

Hi, I just joined this thread to say thanks!

Epson told me tough luck, but your driver installed without a hitch! :D

Now I upgraded to Windows 7 and got the message that my scanner was not compatible, but after re-installing your drive again no problem! :D:D

Epson should be ashamed of themselves.

Thanks for the driver. I have it installed on my Dell Studio XPS 16 with Vista Home Premium x64 and it works great on that machine. The only thing is that I tried to install this on my home PC with Win7 Ultimate x64 and it does not work. I have tried uninstalling via windows, re-installing, removing with Total Uninstall and re-installing or even installing over a previous installation of the driver.

I have attached a screen capture of the error message when I try to initiate a scan. If you select yes it just opens a help file to which I have exhausted all troubleshooting possibilities. It doesn't matter if I use the included utility, ACDSee or an online Java utility with my bank.

Please advise. Thanks again.

I tried to install my software for my Epson 1660 onto a new PC which has Windows 7 64 bit on it & it would not install. I looked for a 64 bit driver for Vista & found this thread. I also downloaded the driver from the link & tried installing it.

I just clicked the setup application file in the downloaded from the downloaded file. When I put my CD in the drive to install smart panel all I get is the message that the driver isn't compatible & I can't install the scanner. Where does on go from there?

Thanks in advance

Hello - I only registered to also say thanks. It has been frustrating not being able to use my Epson 1660 due to getting a new computer with Vista 64 and your driver combined with downloading the Epson scan program worked great, zero problems.

Wish I could find a better scan program though, the new Epson one has a lot less options then the old one did. :/

Again, thanks much.

My Computer

I have the unofficial driver now installed & my scanner is working OK. I also got Smart panel installed by selecting the correctly by opening the CD in Explorer & selection the correct file rather than just putting the CD into the drive & letting windows open the disk & try to install.

I just joined forum today so I could say THANKS for posting this as I can now use my scanner for the first time in two years! I was close to throwing it in the bin.:D Once again Thanks a million

To Vista64user

Let me thank you for your software that allowes me to use my EPSON 1660 Perfection Scanner on my Windows 7 64bit OS.

I spent about two weeks trying to find an update driver that would work on Windows 7 64 bit through EPSON techs and got quite a run around, until after quite a few E-nails and downloads they told me to use what never worked.

The last one told me the truth there will be no 64bit software for the 1660 scanner on Windows 7 and I should go to there store to see which scanners work on my OS. Like I should buy another new scanner from them.

So again thank You for the Software that works.:D

That driver didn't work for me. What did work was installiong the x64 driver from Epron for their Epson Expression 1680 Professional scanner instead. I had to force the Device Manager driver install to use the .inf file for the 1680.

Here's how:

Download and run the Epron file.
It will extract to here:
C:\EPSON\epson12203_twain_driver_and_epson_scan_utility_304a

Then cancel the install process.
Open Device Manager.
Right click the scanner (will have yellow "!")
click update driver, click click :Brownse my comp", click "let me pick from list..." , click have disk, then browse to here:
C:\EPSON\epson12203_twain_driver_and_epson_scan_utility_304a
pick any inf, and it should go from there.
