Windows Vista Realtek\SmartCopy Media Reader Driver Not working

At one point I was able to put my SD card without any issues and upload pics. I have recently tried and and am unable too. When I go to my computer it does not show any of the drives that use to be there. I have checked Device Manager and there is nothing that is flagged. I have gone to Gateway directly and downloaded and tried to re-install but that has not worked either. I have a GT5676, AMD Phenom Quad 9400 and 64 bit.

Any help is much appreciated.

What do you need help with, Realtek (sound) or SD card (removable media)
For the SD card go to
Card Reader Driver 5.1.2600.2011.zip - Free software downloads and software reviews - CNET Download.com
Download the driver to your desktop
Go to device manager and uninstall the driver that is there
Reinstall the driver, When it asks if you would like to go on line or browse your computer say browse. Go to the file you downloaded from the download I sent you to.
For a Realtek problem go to the Realtek driver site (link on top of sound threads) and do the same thing
If I have helped click the scales symbol and tell me

Thank you for getting back to me. I am not having a problem with sound. I am problem with my card readers. I have multiple places on the front of my tower for digital camera cards, USB ports etc. They all worked at one point but for some reason none are working right now. I tried to download the thing you mentioned but that did not work either. Also when in device manager I am ot 100% sure where the driver is I am looking for.

I don't know why you don't have an entry for SD card. Is it in non plug and play?
Click on the + and see if anything is there.

Just a thought, Open device manager and then plug in the device and see if a new entry is opened in device manager. It will close and then reopen.
If a new entry is there that is the driver you need to uninstall and reinstall.

Still not quite sure what the problem is as you mention Realtek in your heading which is sound, then you say SD card not reading and you also mention USB ports.
To update the USB port driver go to Device manager,Universal Serial Bus Controllers, click the + then go to USB Mass Storage Device, Right click and update the driver from this file

Look at any error logs, this may give you an insight into what is happeneing.

Left Click on Start Menu.
Right click on Computer and choose manage.
Click on the event viewer.
You now have loads of options to try and pin down what is happening.
Expand the error tab.
Look for things in the last 24 hours.

I am probably not explaining anything correctly. I do have sound. I tried plugging something into the front USB port on the tower but did not see anything new pop up under device manager. Below is a front shot of my tower. This is what is not working. I have tried everything that has been mentioned here and starting to think I may need to take it to someone local. You guys have been great sso I must not be understanding.

Did you do what Roy69 said and look for error messages. Go to computer, Right click and click Manage, Go to Event Viewer and look in the center section for errors.
Go to services (in the same computer, manage) and highlight Shell Hardware Detection, Right click and go to the properties.
See if the startup is set to Automatic.
Post back any errors you find for Roy69 to look over.

Shell hardware detection is set to automatic. As for the errors under event viewer there are many of those. I have never checked this section so it is new to me. Not sure if there is a way to narrow them down or something in particular I should be looking for. Below is an idea of some of them with a screen shot. I have a pretty good idea that something has happened in the past 2-3 months that has caused these drives to vanish on me.

The highlighted error you have there is telling you you have the print spooler turned off in services.
