Hi,

My windows failed to load b/c a critical system driver is missing or corrupt.

File: windows/system32/Drivers/gjofl.sys

Status: 0xc0000225

Prior to this, I had received some sort of virus that microsoft security essentials claimed to quarantine. I also ran malware bytes. After the scans, my computer accidentally became unplugged and died (the battery is shot). After trying to restart, I received the error msg.

I have tried booting up in safe mode and it doesn't work.

I also ran diagnostics -- the only msg I received was: "diagnostics not found on utility partition". I have no idea what that means.

I am being prompted to insert my installation disc to repair my comp, but windows was preinstalled so I don't have that option.

Please help!

I dont know the answer, but I have a suspicion, that maybe, that driver has something to do with the virus. I googled the driver, nothing. I looked at my computers drivers (cmd prompt and type driverquery) and I do not have it.

What you should do is be sure. Run a full anti virus scan
Download and run malwarebytes, use the full scan and be sure to update first.

If you cannot because of the problem, I would create this DVD from another computer and try to boot. If you can next step is to check for the nasties.

Yeah, I can't fire up my comp so I will have to try the "create a recovery disc option". Does that pose any risk to the data stored on my comp (I'm technologically challenged)?

Thx for your help :)
