my pc lost the usb!!!!

OK, I'm posting this from my phone..... I have a Dell inspiring 531 with vista 32 bit. I was doing something with an iphoneband all the sudden when the of froze, I shut er down. When I powered back up, the mouse and key board were unresponsive......I have narrowed it down to drivers because it works in BIOS and with the reinstall disk that came with it. I just did a fresh install on a blank disk and I'm up and running...... how do I get the drivers on the old hard drive so I can keep all the stuff where I had it in the first place? I have multiple users on the PC and don't want to have to reinstall everything where it was before.... I.e. iTunes, movies pictures.... Ada yada yada..... thanks in advance.

Haha relax it takes time to get to everyone. Don't get worried unless 24 hours go by without help. First, can you clarify a little here:
I was doing something with an iphoneband all the sudden when the of froze
What exactly is an iPhoneband? And I will assume you meant the computer froze, I can't really decipher that last bit. The rest was a little vague too, I think you're saying you reinstalled Vista on a different hard drive ("blank disk"?) and you want everything back on that hard drive but with working drivers. But that doesn't really sound right, so if you could a little more detail that would help :)

Haha....OK.... just bear with me as this is all being done from a phone. Yes I was trying to do some stuff with an iPhone. The PC froze. Reboot left me with no functionality of keyboard and mouse. Both USB based. No PS/2 ports available. Via BIOS keyboard works. With fresh install on blank spare hdd, it all works and have original hdd installed and can access both hdds if I am running from #2. What I was wondering is, can I just toss drivers from the new hdd into the old hdd and be back where I was yesterday? I've tried moving files and, unlessbi do it one file at a time, the PC says I do not have permission to do so. I just don't have that kinda time .... I think what I may do is move the files I want from hdd 1 to hdd 2. After I do that, can I wipe the original and use it in a raid array or would they both need to be started as such from the start? ....... nvm the last part. Ill ask it laterbafter we get the issue at hand solved. I hate computers by the way.....lol

Thanks also.....

Ok MUCH better :) I don't know how to transfer drivers like you want (I'll get someone on here who does know if we can't fix it a different way, assuming they don't just jump in first) but I've got a couple ideas. First, can you start from the 1st HD in safe mode? And is it just the mouse and keyboard that won't respond or can you plug in other things (like flash drives) and have them work normally? Also, what were you doing with the iPhone? We'll start with those.

Oops again. Fresh install on blank hdd allows me to boot like its a brand new system.
Thanks for the links. Good reading. But, when I boot with my original hdd, I can't get past the login screen. Its almost like windows never loads the drivers at all. I can't use anything. What I might do is just copy all the files over from the old hdd to the new one. Once I get it booted with the new hdd I can access all the stuff on both harddrives. I just need to have backups upon backups. I should have learned after this happened last time but I lost everything last time. Ill update when I Ger home as I am at work. Oh, can I use a raid 1 setup after all this is done? Or would I need both hdds to be blank from the start?

Again, thanks y'all

Bill

Copying files like you say should work fine (as long as you don't copy any of the bad system files that are causing problems) Just keep it limited to moving your personal folder, and reinstall all the programs on your new HD (don't try to copy the Program Files accross; that rarely works and usually causes more issues.)

just thought id drop back by to tell all what happened. ..... we took the pc to a specialist. his rate is $35 per half hour. i told my wide i would just go get a new HDD and be on my merry way for $50.00........ so, she left the pc there. this dud is supposed to be the pro. he tells my wife he is still researching it all. he chatted with a few people online. they all told him to just get an older keyboard and mouse and send us away. this pc dont have ps/2 ports....... long story shot, im out $112.00 and my pc still aint 100%..... i am having the damndest time with the printer and i could've been upp and running for $50.00 plus tax. " I TOLD YOU SO TINA!!!!'........ ok im done

thanks,

When you first start the computer and BEFORE it starts to load Windows can you press F8 repeatedly and enter safe mode. If so try some of the recovery options there.

thats the thing tho, no recovery helped from the original hdd. i tried every safe mode. using a blank hdd, installing the OS on it, i could access the original hdd from there..... tried moving drivers from new to old. then decided to use new hdd as primary and old as secondary. started moving files over to new hdd and it overheated. i wanted to buy a new 1tb or 500gb for 50-100. wife said to take it to a "specialist" who charged me $112 for his services. after i had already done it and told him how i wanted it done. i am still ironing out wrinkles.....

thanks,

Bz
