bluetooth (peripheral device) trying to kill my brain

Hey guys,

as so many of us I got a message on my computer (Win Vista Premium 64bit) this morning asking me to update "bluetooth periphery device" and in my despeair I downloaded SlimDrivers 2.2 hoping this free program would fix the problem. Well.....it didn't!
Instead:

the bluetooth lamp is now on all the time (FN + FN2 swithches off bluetooth +wireless in one go = really bad as I connect to my internet via wireless)
the bluetooth icon has disappeared from the task bar BUT: bluetooth in the control panel shows me that the box for visibilty in the task bar is checked.
I uninstalled SlimDrivers completely (also from the registery), rebooted countless times. I can no longer connect my phone to my computer via bluetooth, my phone wants me to enter some numeric code all of a sudden (it worked fine yesterday).......

ok, I am completely puzzled and that's hopefully where any of you clever ppl come in... :-)

If I could get the icon back onto the task bar I'd be happy.
What additional info can I provide you with so you might be able to help me?

Anyone?

Thank you loads!

What was the last thing you did trying to connect? Did you do anything different if so what was it? When trying to connect what does it display?

If you have one, run a system restore point to before this happened. I don't know what promulgated that message but it sounds like malware (I don't have a blue tooth dongle so I can't swear by that).

You could also select Safely Remove Software from the notification area in the system tray and uninstall the device. Then shutdown and reboot. It should reinstall it.
