Could someone please help me?

I've had The Sims (One) for quite a while now and it isn't working with my Vista Home Premium Computer...

I've checked the handful of forum threads that have saved a lot of people and nothing is working... :(

When I load The Sims Makin' Magic; the page goes black to load but then it crashes and returns to the Desktop...

I've tried the Compatibility Wizard and I'm running it as an Administrator, I've disabled the Visual Themes and I'm also using the Windows XP Compatibility Mode...

Could someone please help me...? I really want to play The Sims really soon.

I'd appreciate it; thanks in advance to everyone who helps.

I suggest you leave the past behind and buy the Sims 2 and it's 20 expansions. :P It's the same game, only better.

What have you installed since you installed Sims 2? Most likely you have a driver conflict or a software conflict causing the issue.

nope, I have the same problems with Sims. I try manual installation, I try updating it. I run as XP SP2... Nothing seems to work.

I have the same problem. I use windows xp x64 cause i can and i love it, but i wanted to go back to my scary mansion i built in the sims but the same thing happend. I ran it, it turns black and them BAM it crashes and goes back to desktop. I think windows XP and up is too powerful for The Sims. I have the Sims 2 with all the expansions but i miss the old days of usin the prop cheat and putting a car in my grass so it looks like i have a car.

1 last thing, I uste to have Windows XP Professonial (x32), and The Sims ran but still, it was so powerful that the game would accually lag then run rite. And a long-ass time ago i had Windows 2000 Professonial and it ran like a charm.. I guess The Sims classic is obsolete, a thing of the past.

Before i leave i got 1 more thing to say!! If you have the Windows 2000 disc and the CD key. Download Virtual PC from www.microsoft.com and make a virtual machine of Windows 2000. That HAS to work, hell. Im going to do it rite now!

I'm having the same problem! Except I have just the regular Sims disc and I used to have Windows XP but now when I try to play the Sims the people don't come up once I've created them.......................... or any of their personality stuff. I dont know what to do either!

My Computer

I came here, because I too, have the Original Sims (I have the 8-1 Sims... Sims + the 7 expansion packs in one install). I have played it on XP sp 2 and 3 w/ no problems. Actually I have been playing the sims since it came out 11 years ago, and that was on Windows 95, then 98, 98se, Me, xp home, professional, and now Vista (x64) Home Premium (on a Gateway m7501u).

My problem is the game installed fine, loaded up fine. I make a family, and when I move them into a house or go to buy a lot, the family disappears and are no where to be found, rendering the game useless.

ONe can, however, go into an already inhabited house and play that way.

But you can't go anywhere by cab, or jump in that "magic hole" or go downtown, or switch neighbourhoods. Then the game freezes (w/ the hourglass on the screen) and i have to restart the computer.

I am not about to give up my sims 1, and i refuse to go to Sims 2, I've lined enough pockets of EA corporate, they don't need anymore of my money. The expansions should be illegal to cost as much as the original game in my book.

My Computer

Sadly enough--- I have had to give up my Original Sims, since it's not playable on x64 systems. I tried to play Sims 3 and I hated it. :( I miss the Sims..............
