So I have my computer and my X-Box in the same room, and every time I hold down the controller's Guide button my X-box 360 starts running and if I turn off my X-box 360 my controller of course powers down as well, so I have to unplug my X-Box 360 in order to get my controller to connect to my computer when I hold down my guide button, but of course this seems silly, can anyone offer some advise so I don't have to unplug my system to use my controller with Windows?

Try hitting the little button on the controller and on the receiver other than that I wouldn't know what to do.

I dont think there is a solution to that. Maybe get a wired controller for the computer?

ok, i just need to clarify, do you have a wireless gaming reciever for windows? and if you do, i shall post a step by step method of connecting.
1. turn on the controller the lights should flash and turn on your xbox 360 console, press your wireless allocation button (first picture below), and this should make the lights on the pad rotate, this means you are in locate mode.
2. you need to press the wireless locate button on the gaming reciever(Second picture), when you press this, your pad will automatically connect to your computer and turn your xbox 360 off at the power button *make sure your pad is connected to your pc and not your xbox360*.
To turn the pad off is a bit stupid, you need to take the battery off the back of the controller, if you want to connect it back to your 360, you need to turn the xbox back on and press the button on the front of your xbox to locate the pad and press the pad locate button.
