Desktop and Sidebar Flashing in Games

I have:
AMD Phenom 9500+
3Gb RAM
Nvidia 8800GT 512Mb 185.85
Windows Vista Home Premium 32Bit

Playing some games like Morrowind, the wallpaper and Vista sidebar flash through the game graphics. It doesn't make it unplayable, but it is annoying.

What causes this and how can I fix it?

Well, for Morrowind, using compatibility mode for XP seems to have improved the situation. Glad they kept that feature.

Hello mooreted,
I had this issue on Fallout 3 and could not find a fix for it, in the end it got so annoying i disabled the side bar, not a great loss as i dont spend a lot of time gazing at my desktop, still annoying though.

That sounds like a good plan. The sidebar is just kind of sitting there. I never actually use it.
