Hi,

  • Press the Windows key and R to open the Run dialogue box.
  • Type cmd and press enter and click Continue on the UAC prompt if necessary.
  • Type "takeown /f {full location of file in quotes ie. "C:\Program Files\Atari\RCT3\rct3.exe"} and press enter.
  • Type "icacls {full location of file in quotes ie. "C:\Program Files\Atari\RCT3\rct3.exe"} /grant:r Everyone:f" and press enter.
Does this fix the issue? Sorry for the confusing commands, but I don't have the full path. Else (and only if this does not fix the issue)

  • Navigate to the file (rct3.exe) and right click on it and select Properties.
  • Under the Security tab, click Advanced.
  • Under the Owner tab, click Edit.
  • Click "Other Users and Groups".
  • Click Advanced.
  • Click "Find Now".
  • Scroll down and double click on Everyone.
  • Click OK THREE times.
  • Click Edit (now on the standard file Property window under the Security tab).
  • Click Add.
  • Click Advanced.
  • Click "Find Now".
  • Scroll down and double click on Everyone.
  • Click OK.
  • Single click on Everyone and then tick the "Full Control" box under Allow.
  • Click OK TWO times.

Hey thanks for the quick reply I tried the first one but but didnt seem to be getting anywhere with it (tried about 8 times and gave up) is this right or am I typing something I shouldnt be?

"takeown /f"C:\Program Files\Atari\RollerCoasterTycoon 3\RCT3plus.exe"

I tried the second 1 also but didnt make a difference.

Hi,

I think that the "Roller Coaster Tycoon" folder has spaces. Check this. This is the correct command:

takeown /f "C:\Program Files\Atari\Roller Coaster Tycoon 3\RCT3plus.exe"

Note:

No quotes around whole lot
Space the /f
Possible spaces in folder name.

If you tried the second method, then this will not help. I will think and come back to you.

Richard

EDIT: What happens if you try to run rct3plus.exe directly?

Hi million,

Have you tried going directly into the folder and starting up the exe from the bin folder? or have you tried running the repair feature?

Hi million,

The repair feature was a good idea I had not thought of, although if a reinstall did not do the trick... He has not come back to me on whether running the .exe directly worked.
