Sims on Vista

Hi,
I know a lot of people have posted similar threads to this, but I have tried all their solutions and nothing seems to work!
I wanted to install my copy of The Sims onto my laptop which runs Vista, but it doesn't even get to the installation screen. I've tried installing it about 3 different ways and nothing happens every time. I have allowed it on User Account Control each time but then after that nothing further happens. I've changed the properties so that it is set to run as an administrator and on both Windows XP/Windows 98 but nothing seems to make any difference. I'm not getting any of the Sims screens up at all, and my laptop doesn't make any noise as to indicate anything is happening. Is this just my computer's way of telling me that it's not going to happen?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
