hello everyone :)
i'm brand new here so i apologize if this thread is in the wrong place.

my first problem:
i can only account for 12gb of data in the C: drive.
but if i right-click properties, i am told that 29gb is used in the C:

where is the missing 17gb?

i have added up everything in all of the folders in C:, including the hidden folders.
Recycle Bin is empty.
all totals up to 12gb.

page file is only 2.5gb
drive has been defragmented.
yet the properties still tells me 29gb is used.

i really need that 17gb back.
can anyone please help me?

edit: never mind, i got this one solved :D
i turned off Restore Points and recovered 14gb!

my second problem:
i can only add a partition no larger than 8gb.

the total disk space is 160gb.
i want to have a 35gb C: and the rest going to the D:

what i currently have is 140gb C: and 8gb D:

if i use Disk Management to Shrink the C:, it says
"Size of available shrink space in MB: 0"

why am i unable to shrink the C: any further?

many thanks for for all your help

I have the sma eproblem but on a larger scale. I don´t have any Restore Points set-up (which, granted, is causing backup issues).

Rightclicking C-Drive properties states that I have used 106GB. However, when I go into the drive, select all and go to properties I get a total of only 88GB used..... any ideas?

My problem is similar in some ways.
Just got this new laptop last week and first thing I did was create the recovery discs. This added 8 gigs to C drive. Have run disc clean up, defrag (defrag added another gig!) and still the extra files are there. I know those files are from the recovery disc creation, but WHY did the recovery manager add them to C drive and then not clean them up after the discs were created? How can I recover that 8 gigs of space on C drive? And why is defrag causing more space to be used??
