Is there any way to do this without using the vista cd?
Like booting from partition or something?
2)Is my cpu is core 2 duo quad q6600 4cpus 64bit compatible?
3)Which os is better to install 32 0r 64bit?
Thanks

I would try Acronis true imagae 11. Your image can be stored on an external drive and a restore is done with or without a Acronis disk that you make after intalling.

The answer to your second question is "yes". You Q6600 is x64.

The third question is a little tricky. I use x64 here but it may not be right for you. Its said driver support is lacking, but I have never had a problem finding drivers in x64 for any of my hardware. Its also said that some programs have problems or will not run at all in x64. I have seen none of these problems. X86 programs run just fine in x64.

Its also said that gaming has issues with x64. Again no problems here.

If you have a strong video card and good memory(as well as at least 2Gb) you should be fine. People also say that the more RAM the better. I agree. But I have really seen virtually no reason to go beyond 2Gb.

Hope this was a confusing enough answer.

Security is the biggest benifit.

Able to use up to 128Gb of ram in vista ultimate.

Did I mention security. Kernal hardening helps prevent major nasties from recking havoc.

Stability. It is Damn stable.

With your hardware it would run like a dream.

Even though its considered by some a hinderance, driver signing! All drivers must be signed. For me that means better quality and more reliable drivers.

Was that 6?

In a word x64 rocks. Hope your installing Ultimate x64 on that cool system. I have it running here, and my hardware is close to yours but your got more RAM(2Gb here) a better CPU(C2D6550 here), our motherboards are about the same(intel Q35) and you got the better GPU(NV 7900 GT).

Yes, you sytem will ROCK!!!

But the way...consider Comodos latest x64 firewall, and NOD32 x64 AV. Total security and native x64. A-squared free addition and spybot and your set. Lite and tighter then a frogs..well you know.

Only x64 can see all that 4 gb of rams you have already. What else benefits you need to know. BTW, you have a nice system there.
