Games Folder Problem

So I recently (using one of the walkthroughs on this site) was able to manually remove the shortcut arrow, it worked great, but I think I may have screwed something up along the way. I use the Games folder to get to my games quickly, but after messing with removing the shortcut icons, games will no longer run from in the folder. I receive the following error when I try to load a game from the folder: This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Set Associations control panel. The only problem, these are shortcuts, there is no program associated with shortcuts, is there? Anyway can anyone tell me how to make the folder work right.

All other shortcuts outside of that folder work fine, and all the shortcuts go to the right place, and if I load the shortcut from the AppData GameExplorer folder it works fine.

I had that same error as well after removing the shortcut arrows. The only way I was able to restore working links in the games folder was to restore the arrows.

Hi KingJ50,

Yes, I just noticed that myself thanks to your post. That option has been removed from the tutorial. Using the Vista Shortcut Manager program instead will work without messing anything up.

http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/67615-shortcut-arrow.html

You can restore the Game shortcuts by restoring the shortcut arrows again as TDSmoove posted, or delete the ones you have and recreate new shortcuts. Afterwards, you can use the program to change them how you like without problems.

Sorry for your trouble,
Shawn

Well, thanks Shawn for your help and I’ll get the program, but now I think I may have another problem, you said you deleted that option form the tutorial, is getting he shortcut icon back still there?

You can use the program to add it back to restore the Game links, then use the program to remove the arrow again without problems afterwards.
