." THERE ARE NO OPERATING SYSTEMS LISTED AND I
CANNOT FIND ONE IN THE "LOAD DRIVERS" BUTTON!!!

Please help me ASAP. I am about to wipe out 500 G of stuff I have on my PC.

My vista ultimate 64 is keep saying that "the operating system is missing".
I have the original installation dvd and run system recovery. I am stuck because my operating system is NOT LISTED and when I click load drivers I have not clue what to select.
After I click load drivers a small screen poops and tels me : INSERT THE INSTLLATION MEDIA FOR THE DEVICE AND CLICK OK TO SELECT THE DRIVER. A driver for what???for pete sake.
I click that and I got the regular screen where i can see my harddrives, removable disks and so. I can t access drive C because is telling me that is not formated and that I have to format it.
HELP /where I can find the drivers to make the operating system to appear in the recovery window? I desperately clicke on each file from the vista dvd. None seemed to be valid .
Please try to answer as soon as posible.
THX. I will pray for your hard ( I mean the real one ..not the one in your pc)

Sounds like you have made a meal and a mess of things.

what exactly were you trying to do?

What happens when you re-boot the PC?

What do you mean by no OS listed (listed in where?)?

you have a real mess but if you're drives are SATA you can get the other data on your boot drive because it's still there, it isn't lost.
what you'll have to do is unplug all your drives.
then take one that has the least data on it that you're willing to lose.
If all the drives have important data then you'll have to buy a cheap HDD to keep your data because which ever drive you use will have to be formatted.

Anyway, take either the drive you don't mind erasing or the new one and plug only that one in.
install the O/S, then you can plug the other drives in one at a time and recover the data you need.

Just make sure to format the drive with the old O/S once you've copied the data you need.

All good advice people...but I dont think he's, shall we say, computer savy enough to handle this sort of problem. I doubt he has more then 1 HD.

Dude you need to take your computer to a shop. There they can remove your HD and recover your data before you lose it. Which you will if you do any of the things suggested so far. Your going to need your files removed by means that defie your skills. At which point your system will have to have windows reinstalled.

Sorry but thats your best, quickest solution.

Thanks to all of you for the REAL HELP.

I tried all the solutions suggested by CLEVO, JOSEPHH, BRINK. Nothing- I guess you folks are right , I messed up my supercool pc.
I have 3 hdd 500. I don t not which kind of raid. But I know that one of the hdd is hidden or something. In my computer only drive C is listed (aprox 900gb).

Anyhow, KENTUCKYRANGER is the one who figured out exactlly the problem I have with my pc. The transfer of data is the only solution ...I am afraid. Briliant idea. THX.
JOEL406 is right too. I am going to have hard time playing with 4 hdd.

I'll let you know guys about the future steps of this pc recovery nightmare.
If you have any other idea how to make the OS to appear in the startup recovery window, just let me know. From that point I have 2 options.
1 LOAD DRIVERS- I don t know which drivers.
2 NEXT- The panel with 5 options- none working. The last one is the commnad promp. I tried all bunch of commands recomanded by microsoft. Nothing.

Thank you very much to all of you.

hey yo SCROOGE

NICE TO HAVE MORE OPINIONS AROUND.

My motherboard is ASUS P5 975 WS PRO.
I didn t uninstall my hdd yet. I don t know on which the data is , which one is hidden (for recovery i guess) . nor which kind of raid I have. I understood that data is not located only on one hdd rather then spreaded on all three. Right?
How can I recover it ?
I have so much stuff I don t want to loose.

I hope to hear from any of you guys soon.

peace.

My Computer

i'd say the only thing left to do is to break the raid and start over.
the only thing about doing that is that i'm not sure if your going to lose your data. did you look in the (bios) and the raid config at bootup?
if not try the bootup one .as your booting up you should see on your screen raid config . i think you hit (ctrl + i) to enter the config settings. and it looks like you can break the raid and then reset it up and it will ask you if you want to keep the data. i haven't done it in almost a year and can't remember for sure .

Thank you SCROOGE for your nice advices.

I am about to try to break the raid , as you said. But first I will try again some of the basic solutions.
Recently I was able to get that f8 screen with the safe mode etc options. I will try each of it first then I will give up and do whatever it takes.
The safe mode option just FAILED. after 2 hours of repairing attempts I got this
WINDOWS CANNOT REPAIR THIS COMPUTER AUTOMATICALLY.
IF YOU HAVE RECENTLY ATTACHED A DEVICE TO THIS COMP. SUCH AS CAMERA OR PORTABLE MUSICPALYER.......CONTACT THE SYSTEM ADMIN(WHICH IS ME).
This is true ,before my pc failed i had attached to it a lot of crap: two ipods, a palm , a blackjack, 2 razors phones, ahdd cam, memory sticks and so on. It might be that.
Now I disconnected all of them.

The startup repair diagnostic it s saying that:
PARTITION TABLE IS CORRUPT ON DISK\DEVICE\HARDDISK0
REPAIR ACTION:PARTITION TABLE REPAIR
RESULT: FAILED. ERROR CODE=0X490
TIME TAKEN =7480061MS

How Bad is that ??????

PEACE my friends . and dont let me down.

Hey tomitzaurus

This guy just had to recover data from
a 'broken' Raid.

Dzomlija

Maybe you can search some of his resent
threads and come up with a way to recover
some of your data, if need be!

I hope you get it sorted out!

Later  Ted

Hi BAREFOOTKID

I SAW THAT YOU ARE VERY ACTIVE ON THIS SITE . I good to have helpfull people around, that kind who know what are hey doing.

You are talking about a broken RAID. I think that I have to follow SCROGGE'S advice and reset the raid. Right now I cant ''cause i am into another painfull repairing session, and I cant turn it off. I'll try a.s.a as it will finish. With the same obvious result "startup repair cannot ...."

You gave me a name DZOMLIJA. Is it somebody with the same problem ..hmmm I will try to find the commnets. I might find something interesting there.

Thanks a lot for all your comments. Unfortunatelly I am still very confused.
But I have another good idea. I am an artist and I decided to give as a present one of my mixed media painting, to the first who will come up with a magical idea which will help me restore the system. I know that all of you who tried to help are nice and you don t need anything in return . But I think is fair to reward the one who will waste his or her time for my problems.
If you guys what to see what am I doing just go on this link.
mihai tomescu This is not junk advertisment, it is just my website. I hope to find somebody interested in this deal. The painting I will give away it s not that big as those on the website but still.... a nice original work on paper .

Thx folks!!!
I am still rebooting and repairing ..damn. All the paintings I did so far are on the hard drives I am about to loose. How bad is that???

peace

CTRL+I while booting it is not working. I get the same "missing operating system" message. All I can do from this point is to hit alt/ctrl/del to restart.

I am about to go and buy a new sata external hdd. Do you think that I can install a fresh vista on it and get access to the other three hdd i have inside.

I know that one of you might have a great idea . It souldn t be that hard.

So the ctrl+i didn t work ...what else???
Peace \\mt

i did the ctrl+i while the pc was booting.

NOTHING. No config settings.
