Hi Veryunhappy,

It depends on how much RAM you already have, and what the type and speed of your RAM is.

It can help increase the rating number for RAM, but this is limited to how fast the RAM is and how much RAM your computer actually uses.

Unless you do video editing or have a lot of windows open all the time, I do not see much improvement in adding 4GB more RAM for 8GB total.

Is you RAM rated at 667Mhz (PC-5300), or around that? You would see more of a performance gain by using faster memory with a higher rating like 1066MHZ or so instead. However, for what it will cost, your current RAM would need to be a lower MHz for it to be worth the upgrade.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

thanks once again

To upgrade to faster RAM depends on what MHz your RAM is now.

For just increasing the RAM amount, I would save your money.

You could also check which memory slots are in use. If your system is capable of using dual channel memory, have you got the memory inserted into the correct slots in order to take advantage of this (refer to your motherboard manual)? As regards installing more RAM, sure you can do this but it might have the opposite effect and actually bring your score DOWN. This is because some boards have an issue with having all memory slots filled and having the memory synchronised due to timing issues. This is usually resolved by the system reducing the memory bus speed so that the limitations caused by the differing electrical track lengths between the memory slots and the memory controller are minimised. For example, my system uses PC3200 (DDR1-400) running at 200 MHz. If I was to install more RAM of the same specification, then it would not run at 200MHz - rather it would run at 166MHz, the equivalent of PC2700 (DDR1-333). This is a reduction of 17%.
I also notice that you are running 32-bit Vista. As such, it is only capable of addressing a total of 4GB of memory space (including addresses reserved for hardware and I/O devices), so the physical memory available to such a system is usually somewhere between 3GB and 3.5GB dependant on the system hardware. In order to be able to take advantage of 4GB and above, you need to be running a 64-bit version of Vista. In short, don't waste your money on more RAM if you cannot access it due to address limitations. Even if the extra memory cannot be accessed, then simply having it installed can cause the memory that you can access to run at a lower speed for the reason described above.

If you decide to go x64, don't buy a $90 OEM copy. Order it from microsoft. It only costs $9.99, which covers the shipping and handling (or it did in Feb 2007 when I got mine). You will get the x64 dvd in 2 - 3 weeks. You only need the Product Key from your x32 copy.

What's the speed of your 2x2 Corsair ram you currently have.. as I only have 2GB of PNY 667 pc2-5300 ram.. and that gives me a Score of 5.1

I'm also in the same boat.. the ONLY thing that's not a 5.9 is the RAM, thats not enough a reason to get more tho, and in your situation you can't use any more than 3.25 or so anyways cuz ur a 32bit user.. so get Vista 64bit and it will use all 4.. and probably improve your score.. also get better ram if your Mobo will handle it.. if it can only go up to 800mhz ram.. than get 800

Mine can use 1066.. so thats what I ordered.. I have 4GB of G-Skill pc2-8000 RAM with low timings of 4-4-4-12 vs others that are 5-5-5-15.. so it should get me a decent score.. I'll let ya kno, as it will be here on Tuesday. I'll let ya kno what my score changes to with that.. It better go up, if not then Oh well.. thats no reason to get more RAM.. just for a score thats not all that important!
