disabled desktop items

New Member
I was visiting a web site and a screen prompting me to install an antivirus, i have tried to close the window many times and one window was closing and another was oppening, finally while i closed all the windows my desktop changed. right clicking on the desktop some options were disabled and i cannot change the desktop screen, the screen saver etc.

How can I restore the original settings please,

I have gone through the antivirus PANDA, but not found anything, then I have tries the Lavasoft Ad-Ware and this has cleared the desktop notification screen, but now I am left with a blue desktop and on the desktop properties still options are missing

Did it remove these options or they just will not work? Are you getting any error message when you try? What exact options are missing? If you could, please post a screenshot of this to help determine what the problem could be.

I do not get any error messages but herebelow are the options I have on the personalise desktop

mouse pointers
themes
display settings

the rest are missing

Ok, here you go.

  • Do the reg download from Step One in Method Two for the Desktop Background link above.
  • Next, do the reg download from Method Two in the Screen Saver link above.
  • Afterwards, restart the computer to hopefully have them back.

Thank you very much it worked, the only missing option is the desktop background.
I have tried the gpedit.msc and User Configuration, Administrative Templates, Control Panel, Display in not configured but still cannot see the option.

Ok VCA,

There may be another entry made somewhere else in the registry. Open Regedit again and click on Edit and Find. Type NoChangingWallpaper and click on Find Next. Delete any NoChangingWallpaper entry (right click and delete) it finds. Click on Edit and Find Next to repeat this until it tells you it is finished. Afterwards, restart the computer to see if it returns.
