Computer Hangs on trying to Standby or Hibernate

Good morning all.

I am at my wits end here and I hope someone here can help!

9 times out of 10, when I try to put my Dell E1505 laptop into standby or hibernate, the screen will go black, but the wifi and bluetooth indicator lights stay on, the hd indicator light keeps blinking randomly to show activity, and after approximately 10 minutes the computer just shuts down forcefully and reboots. When I reboot it, it gives me the standard "Windows was not shut down properly" screen.

My computer is a Dell E1505 with an ATI x1400 Mobility Radeon, Intel 3945abg Wireless card, motherboard audio, broadcom network card and whatever bluetooth card came with the computer (using a toshiba BT stack is all I know)

Please let me know if I can provide any more information. I have tried numerous things, including the Power tutorial in these forums to no avail. The only devices configured to wake the computer are the motherboard audio and the conexant modem, but since I can't get into sleep, I can't see how these are the problem.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Thanks, but as I mentioned, I tried all the steps in that tutorial.

That's how I got the info from the powercfg command which I didn't know about until I read it in that tutorial.

Thanks though!

Ok bandgeekndb

one thing that springs to mind, is there an update available from Dell for your hardware and / or your Bios.

Not sure how old the laptop is but even with a brand new unit the drivers supplied are quite often out of date by the time it gets to the end user.

Sometimes a BIOS or driver update will cure power state problems.
