rundll32 stops working

Hi, I am on windows vista sp1 home premium, and I often get a problem
saying rundll32 has stopped working:mad:. I googled and found out that this
is often caused due to nero's codecs which interfere with vista:rolleyes:, but I
have neither nero nor roxio installed, except that I use the latest
version of vista codec pack. I just checked out by disabling startup
services in msconfig and rebooting each time, but it's all the same
every time:huh:, the problem just keeps repeating. I often get the problem
on resuming from standby:sleepy:. Can anybody recommend a solution? BTW, i am
on an HP Pavilion dvt6846tx.

hello vikraman09, and welcome to the forums,

if you check the error detail that you posted the actual fault module is stated as USER32.DLL

you may want to check this tutorial and run the system file check as shown.

hopefully this may solve the problem, if not post back with any output from SFC

Hey, I also checked out the processes running in task manager, and I actually found two rundll32.exe processes, one running under the SYSTEM account (2196k mem) and one running under my account, ie, the user logged in. Is this normal? Both are located at C:\WINDOWS\system32\rundll32.exe

OK, I've had some time to check into the error (bucket ID 1066512) and guess what? the definitive answer on Microsoft technet leads to one answer that suggests that you search for an answer

it looks as if this problem is still in Microsoft's to-do pile :) there is quite a lot of references to the actual error but all lead to nowhere or the technet article

I'm afraid for the present you may have to put up with the error until Microsoft come up with an answer. as far as I can understand the error is Self healing in that apart from the error itself it does not appear to cause other problems.

if any other members have any further information please post
