Solved Can't Rename Drive and Lost Icon

I just cant rename my drive (C:\) and lost my default Icon. After this Trojan, (this is just the file name "winthb.exe") the Icon changed and it says "thbcreations". Kaspersky detected the trojan and deleted from my system. Now the system is clean, but still cant rename my Vista drive and restore the default icon. Please help!!! and thanx in advance...

I've tried three of them, "Icon Cache Rebuild, Drive Icon Change & Drive Name Change". I think, drive icon/drive name, only works for Removable drives, as I can see my "Virtual CloneDrive" settings in that same location in registry. Is there any method that I can use with my HDD, so that I can rename and change its icons???

Persuasive,

You should be able to change the icon and name from those tutorials. Did you use the C: drive letter in Method Two (step 8)? It changes the C: drive for me.

tried both Brink, still its not working and something is blocking. I tried this command in command prompt, "label C: Vista", then it changes when u check properties under "General" tab, but not in explorer.

Persuasive,

It looks to me as if the illegal % characters in the name are somehow blocking the change. you may want to try searching for the string of characters in regedit and see if you can change them from there
another option could be Drive Manager as that works at a low level that may allow the change

In Safe Mode, its showing the default label and I even tried this "label" command and it really worked. It showed an Icon, but not the default one with a windows logo as system root. How can I open this "Drive Manager" or u meant "Disk Management"??? I think some services/processes r still messing with my system.

Sorry did mean Disk Management :o

it does only bring up the rename option as in explorer but may have more rights

one other thing, which I'm sure you've already checked, the trojan didn't mess about with your permissions on the drive did it?

sorry to hear that,

I definitely think its to do with the characters in the name, can find loads of fixes for the same thing in file names none for drives

only thing I can suggest is to do some more research on the actual trojan and see if any of the AV developers have specific information relating to this trojan and it's repair

thanx a lot for all your support guys, now everythings back to normal. Last one messing my icon was this "autorun.inf" file, I deleted this autorun and I have my default Icon and I can change my label as well...(one more thing guys, before u go for any steps that u try to fix your comp, mainly for this kind of issues, please check for any Virus/Trojan. Evenif its removed, check for any "autorun.inf" files & its content in any drive. I didnt have to use any of the "Drive Icon/Label" method to fix this issue. Again, thanx for all your help!!!

hello persuasive,

glad to hear you've solved this one, the total removal of of all the remnants of a trojan or virus is always a major problem, best not to get infected at all :D.
The only way is to run good anti malware software and follow safe practices when surfing, reading email and such, which I'm sure you do, happy computing
