How much ram does your computer use at idle

Just curious as to how much ram everyones computer uses at idle. Mine uses anywhere from 25-39%, is this normal? I am new to vista but it seems like it is using too much ram at idle. I have Vista Home Premium x64 and 4 gigs ram. Click on my specs to see the rest about my computer.

Vista will load less stuff into the paging file & more into memory depending on how much ram you have. For example, with 2 gb vista will use about 400mb of ram & with 8gb it uses about a gigabyte of ram.

When i had 4g it uses about 600-800mb, now with 8gb, vista is no longer loading any programs into the paging file & uses 1.06 gb of my ram.

Sounds about right. Visa Superfetch preloads programs you use regularly. The more RAM the more it loads. It frees memory as you need it (and is very good at doing it) so you shouldn't ever encounter a shortage of memory. Incidently your system allocate a fair chunk of your 4gigs for its own use, so Vista only has access to about 3.2gigs.

When it first starts up the computer is using about 959mb (25%) of ram and then after I have been working for a while and close everything it is using about 1458mb (38%) of ram. Not that it is a huge deal but I thought that it is a bit much. I dont have a whole lot installed on here so its not from my programs.

Edit:
Just saw NormCamerons post. Cool I was hoping it was normal.

My understanding is that the ram is dynamically cached (superfetched etc) but under load from a game it's released back to the system which is different to how XP does it so it's not a straight comparison, although still uses more than XP obviously, but worth it I think.

BTW mines around 1.5gig idle of my 4gig
