Vista: 1 week challenge!

Ok I am not sure how many people are tired of listening to all the complaints about Vista and how it sucks or does not work with my system, but I am.

For ALL NEW users either buying a new computer or upgrading to Vista I truly urge you to give it a fair chance.

Give Vista 1 week of full time use and I will be amazed if people truly find it problem some to use.

If you can use XP you should easily be able to pick up Vista's new features and use them along with not being lost at all with the new interface.

Before you start complaining ask yourself a few questions first:

  • Did you load Vista on a computer older than 3 years old?
  • Did you load Vista on a computer with 512mb of ram because XP worked on it?
  • Did you load Vista on your computer, but forget to update it to Service pack 1?

How about when you bought a computer:

  • Did you really think your 10 year old printer or scanner should work on a brand new OS?
  • How about those really old programs? I think it's time to upgrade and stay current

If you buy Vista with a computer at a store you should already be loaded up with SP1 and load up all updates with the nice new update window. (search for it by going into start and using the search at the bottom of the start menu type "update" and push enter and run the update and install everything needed.

After updated and all drivers are installed give it 1 week of adjusting to it and try and forget about all the bad hype it got and see for yourself, and then come back and explain what is so bad that it can't do something that XP or other OS's could do that Vista can't.

I bet you come back with a very limited amount and most likely nothing.

I was in the same spot. After reading all the bad press from the "pros" I was really unsure about upgrading to it, but now running Vista 64 bit I just laugh at that because how much more advanced Vista is than XP ever could be.

Vista things just work. Yes they just do. In Xp you always got crashes and things just did not always work or just ran slow some times and whatever the cause it just sucked. Also XP was so easy to screw up with spyware Virus, malware etc. With Vista it sadly is still a risk, but the spyware and other problems have been cut down by a great amount and I have noticed huge improvment in my scans!

Vista is by far the best and advanced OS Microsoft released and with 25 minutes to learn the basic new features and a week to fully understand you will find that Vista is great and it would be hard to go back to XP. Just wait you will see!

If after a week and you just can't find Vista to your liking I will be 100% surprised ;)

I suspect the main complainers are people with sub par hardware. I have been running Vista since Beta 1 and have never had any major or minor issues for that matter. Smooth sailing, no performance issues here.

Ive had very few issues and those that I have had can for the most part be fixed with the help of forums like this. Most of the time Vista runs smooth. I like it too, its easier to find things.

About 99% of the problems with Vista are user related. A incorrectly configured setting here, porely configured hardware there. I have been using Vista Ultimate since February 2008 and have never had any compatibility issues that can't be solved by a quick update.

The biggest problem i think is that people get into a habit of looking for XP drivers\software and accidentally install them on Vista. I admit that i have in fact done this however is was a Forceware driver that told me it was the wrong version before i could do any damage.

All in all i think a 1 month trial is necessary for an average computer user to truly appreciate Vista.

My sister runs Vista Business on a nearly 2 year old laptop with 512MB RAM and a 1.6GHz Core Duo and it runs decently. (Of course my 3.4GHz Core 2 Duo with 2GB (soon to be 4) RAM kinda owns her laptop
