Solved Cleanup hangs

Hi

I have Vista Ultimate, when I run disk cleanup, either through cleanmgr or drive properties it gets to temporary files then goes nowhere, after 30 minutes the progress meter has not moved (it is at about 50%) and if I leave it running it just disappears after a while (I have not timed this but it is longer than 30 minutes).

I have run a check on my hard drive and it is okay.

Is there a fix for this or if not how do I clean up "temp" files.

However, you might run a sfc/ scannow command to see if it can find and fix any bad system files that may be causing the problem with Disk Cleanup.

The manual method worked, that PC is in the process of deleting the files now (116 Gig worth).

I will run the scannow later and let you know.

Just to clarify, are you saying that the amount of temp files was the problem?

maybe 116GB it would have to find all of those files in the temp folder. I would still recommend you follow Brink's advice and run sfc/scannow.

Okay

I deleted the 116 Gig of files in the Temp folder and I ran Scannow and found no problems, but Disk Cleanup now works okay, so I think it is a fair assumption that the 116 Gig was too big for Cleanup to handle.

Lesson learned, I will run it weekly from now on.
