restoring files from backup

I did a custom install for the vista home premium 64bit version; while in the 32 bit version, i did a full back up on a external HD. I restored the files while in the 62bit version without a problem, but I can't find neither of my files? I used the help and search options but nothing. I am in big trouble since i had family pictures and a extensive music library. Help please!

Hi, saturn01, and welcome to the forums.

I got a few questions to ask, but I am also off to bed - it's 1 AM and I have class at 8 AM and a 30 min drive....my apologies if I am not able to get back with you, but I am hoping that my questions will help someone else out in targeting your problem.

First of all, when you installed Vista x64, can you describe the customizations you made? Did you use the same exact username and password as before?

My theory is that if you didn't use the exact same name and such, the files are there, under your old username, and you simply cannot access them because Vista thinks you are not the same person....

Thanks johngalt,
I tought of that, I just didn't want to do a clean install over again and it's repercusions about the drivers. The answer to your question is yes! I created different profiles.
If i encounter a problem i'll seek for your advise again!

Thanks for welcoming to the forum.

Hello Johngalt and any other guru friend!
Well I re-installed(clean=custom) vista64bit with same user account and same computer name; I then extract or restore advance backup using the external HD sucessfully, but still doesn't show the files anywhere.
Is it because the 64bit version of the same vista platform doesn't recognize it in the old 32bit version? What else can i try?
