Taskbar Button Problem

When I minimize a web page the respective taskbar button will replace the previous taskbar button. For instance if I minimize web page 1, I will get a button. but when I go to web page 2 and minimize it the button replaces the button for web page 1. The buttons are not stacked. Shouldn't I get a task bar button for each web page that is minimized so that I can retrieve particular pages as desired? The taskbar button feature seems to work when opening multiple programs as described in Vista Support, but it does not seem to function with multiple windows.

I have a Compaq Presario with Vista Home Basic and I was having the same, or similar, problem months ago in IE. If I had pages open and tried changing, one of them would go away. It could have been the older of the two, I don't remember now. In effect, you could have only one page open at a time in IE while it was acting up. I don't remember how I made it stop doing it, maybe restart the computer, but the problem would pop up again in a day or two.
I haven't had the problem for quite a while now, so maybe one of the 8 million or so patches from Microsoft fixed it.

My problem is not whether to group or not group the taskbar buttons or how to change the number of buttons before they are grouped. The best way to explain the problem is with the following example: if I go to cnn.com it opens a web page. If I minimize the page I will get a taskbar button. Now if I next go to espn.com their web page will open. If I minimize the espn web page, I do not get a taskbar button next to the cnn taskbar button. Instead the espn button will occupy the site on the taskbar where the cnn button was. If I click on the espn button it will only bring the espn page back to view. The cnn button and the espn button are NOT grouped. I am unable to retrieve the cnn button to go back to the cnn web page. In other words when I try to minimize multiple webpage windows I do not get multiple buttons side by side, nor do I get grouping of the buttons. The only button I will get is that of the last window minimized. I hope this isn't too confusing, but any help would be appreciated.

You can try a System Restore using a restore point dated before this problem to see if it can fix it.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Before you get to too complicated measures, just make sure first that the option to group similar taskbar buttons is un-checked. And while you are there, make sure the option lock the taskbar is checked before clicking apply and ok.
